Climate Pollution Reduction Grant Deadline: April 28
Attn: Counties in the Columbia & Greenville-Anderson Metro Areas
The Climate Pollution Reduction Program, which is administered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), provides grants to state and local governments to develop and implement climate action plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The program is meant to be flexible, allowing grantees to use the funds to update existing or develop new climate, energy, or sustainability plans.
Local governments and air pollution control agencies located inan eligible Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) will need to work together to design a regional climate action plan and designate an appropriate entity to serve as the lead for the grant. The lead organization for an MSA must submit a Notice of Intent to Participate in the CPRG Program by April 28. Eligible MSAs in South Carolina are the Greenville-Anderson MSA and the Columbia MSA.
The CPRG Program is split into two phases:
Phase I: Formula Planning Grants ($250 million)
Phase II: Competitive Implementation Grants ($4.6 million)
Under Phase I, EPA is awarding $250 million in planning grants to states, local governments, air pollution control agencies, territories, and tribes via the following formula:
- $3 million to each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico ($156 million)
- $1 million to qualifying MSAs ($67 million)
- $25 million to tribes and tribal consortia
- $2 million to U.S. territories
