Greetings Langston family,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. We all hope for May to bring warmer weather to keep the reignited flame of purpose going.
Firstly, I want to thank everyone who participated in our programs last month. The Langston Entertainment & Sports Law Committee Speed Mentoring Event was a great success, and I was thrilled to see so many of you attend. We had some fantastic participants who have pledged to give their time to the next generation of diverse attorneys. I'm grateful for the hard work of our event organizers and speakers who helped make it happen.
Looking ahead, I'm excited to announce our upcoming event on May 4th, where we discuss the idea of reparations in the context of what happened with Bruce’s Beach. We are delighted to have a panel of distinguished speakers who will explore the legal and historical dimensions of this important issue. We will also hear from community leaders and activists who are working towards reparations for descendants of the Bruce family, who lost their property due to racial discrimination in the early 20th century. This is a timely and vital conversation, and I encourage all of you to attend and engage in the discussion. It promises to be an informative and thought-provoking event, and I hope you can attend.
In addition to the event on reparations, we have a few other activities planned for the coming months. We are working on CLE courses, free legal clinics and networking events for later in the year which will be an excellent opportunity to connect with other legal professionals and learn more about the association's activities.
As always, I welcome your feedback and suggestions on how we can improve and enhance our programs and services. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me or any member of the executive committee with your ideas. Thank you for your continued support of Langston, and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.
