Greetings Residents and Visitors to Greenfield,

The Library Project hit a major milestone on February 3rd with the final pour of the foundation.

The foundation work however, is not complete.  There are 46 columns that must be attached to the foundation. Each column is currently being manufactured to the exact specifications detailed in the construction documents.  The column attaches to bolts embedded into the foundation.  Each embedded column (all 46 of them!) must have a leveling plate.  These leveling plates are set to exact heights so the columns will sit on the proper horizontal elevation.  These plates sit on the foundation with a bed of non-shrink cement base.  The workers are using a transit set to elevation datum to achieve this.

On the site, storm water structures (manholes) are going in to their proper elevation to receive the future rainwater from the parking lot and roof.  The parking lot area is a large portion of the work for this project.  We will be doing sitework for approximately the next 6 or 7 months.

The interior design is in the submittal stage.  Each paint color, each piece of wood, glass, doors, doorframes, and many other detail items must be accepted by the designer before fabrication.  Those final pieces are falling into place and should be in fabrication by mid-March.

We are obviously pretty busy and ask that you be on the lookout for construction traffic entering and exiting the site.

Q&A
What color is the structural steel?
The structural steel generally comes in a red oxide paint or a gray oxide paint.  This building will have a red oxide primer and will be very visible when the Iron Workers arrive in March.
