Federal Infrastructure Grants Now Available for Propane Buses, Facilities, and Medium-Duty Vehicles
The Federal Transit Authority (FTA) is accepting grant applications to replace, rehabilitate, purchase, or lease buses, related equipment, or facilities. This program is funded by the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which set aside more than $1.4 billion dollars in grants for state and local governments to replace transit buses, equipment, and facilities with alternatives like propane autogas. Contact your state and local governments to alert them that propane autogas transit, paratransit, and other medium-duty vehicles, equipment, and maintenance facilities are eligible for purchase or lease under the FTA grants.

FTA has combined two grant opportunities detailed in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act: the Buses and Bus Facility Program, and the Low or No Emission Grant Program. Only states and local governments are eligible to apply for the grant dollars. Grant applications are due by May 31. The grant announcement is available online here.

Grants under the Buses and Bus Facility Program will be awarded based on improved resiliency, reliability, and service. Eligible projects include: replacing, rehabilitating, purchasing, or leasing buses, vans, or related equipment, or rehabilitating, purchasing, constructing, or leasing bus-related facilities regardless of propulsion type or emissions.
Grants under the Low or No Emission Grant Program will be awarded based on reductions to energy use and emissions. Eligible projects include: purchasing or leasing low or no emission buses, acquiring low or no emission buses with leased power source, constructing or leasing facilities and related equipment, constructing new public transportation facilities to accommodate low or no emission buses, or rehabilitating or improving existing public transportation facilities to accommodate low or no emission buses.

Current government fleets can also apply for the grants to expand or improve their autogas fleets, fueling infrastructure, and maintenance facilities. Visit the Fight Electrification tab on the NPGA Member Dashboard for more information.

Annual Retail Sales Report
For the past 20 years, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) has produced an exclusive annual report on U.S. odorized propane sales by market, region and state. Each year we rely on propane professionals like you to provide the data necessary to portray an accurate picture of the industry’s retail sales performance.

If you have previously shared your company’s data for this report, thank you. We know that your time is valuable, and we appreciate your participation. If not, I urge you to do so beginning with the 2021 sales data now being collected. Please go to propane.com/salesreport and follow the on-screen instructions for completing the report.

Based on feedback from industry members, we have simplified the collection steps and created a secure collection form owned and managed by PERC, rather than a third party. I’m confident you will find the process less onerous while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of your submission. Individual responses are kept confidential and anonymous. Only summary statistics are presented in the final report, and data is never disclosed to third parties. You can review the 2020 report at propane.com/salesreport.

If you have any questions about the 2021 Annual Retail Propane Sales Report, please email salesreport@propane.com or call the PERC office at (202) 452-8975.
NPGA Urges Biden Administration to Prioritize American Energy
NPGA joined the American Petroleum Institute (API) and other energy associations in a letter to President Joe Biden calling for action to support the production and infrastructure of domestic energy sources like propane. Highlighting rising costs of all fuels coupled with overall inflation and an economy still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, the letter emphasized the need for the Biden Administration to reduce regulatory burdens that stifle domestic energy and policies that undermine the core of America’s energy independence.

Further, the crisis in Ukraine is impacting the cost of all fuels in Europe and in the United States. Despite this additional stress, policymakers continue to hinder the oil and natural gas industry’s efforts to increase production and reestablish our nation’s energy independence, stability, and security. The U.S. Energy Information Administration expects that natural gas could provide 34 percent of U.S. primary energy demand in 2050, and the world’s energy use in 2040 will still depend on oil and natural gas. The world needs energy leadership, and the U.S. is positioned to reassume the role.
