The Color of Law
LWV Arlington Heights, Mt. Prospect, and Buffalo Grove will be sponsoring a virtual book discussion of "The Color of Law" on Friday, February 25, from 7:00 - 9:00pm. Exploding the myth of de facto segregation arising from private prejudice or the unintended consequences of economic forces, Richard Rothstein describes how the American government systematically imposed residential segregation: with undisguised racial zoning; public housing that purposefully segregated previously mixed communities; subsidies for builders to create whites-only suburbs; tax exemptions for institutions that enforced segregation; and support for violent resistance to African Americans in white neighborhoods. Register here to participate in this virtual event.
League Fundraiser
Mark your calendars now for our League's SundayMarch 20 fundraiser, "An Afternoon with Eleanor Roosevelt." More information and ticket information will be in the February 14 Week in Preview.
