OUR CHURCH STAFF
Do you often wonder exactly who does what for our parish community? In the coming weeks, we will invite members of our church staff to share their stories; telling how they serve the church, and what specific tasks they do to help make St. Augustine's function. You may be surprised to learn what particular gifts they have, where they grew up or how they spend their free time. This "Shining a Light on" series is aimed at helping parishioners get to know their parish community better.

This week's "Shining a Light" staff spotlight is on
communications coordinator, Barbara McGowan
As part-time communications coordinator for St. Augustine’s, Barbara McGowan develops the content, takes the photos, designs the layouts and provides technical support for our newsletters, website and social media. She promotes all our programs and events, and supports our growing list of ministries and outreach programs with both print and online materials. If you are planning a program or event, Barbara will work with you to include it on the church calendar, and promote it in the newsletter, website and Facebook page, often designing banners, posters or flyers to help get the word out. She can also set up an online event registration.
Barbara grew up on the Jersey shore as the youngest of five girls. She comes to us via Boston’s northshore where she previously worked as a communications consultant, creating promotional strategies for both high tech companies and nonprofits, and via Washington DC where she directed communications for St. Columba’s the largest Episcopal church in that diocese. She graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in Studio Art and is a graphic designer and a dabbler in the arts. Her greatest adventure was living aboard a 38-foot sailboat for two years with her husband Patrick and their dog. They traveled from New York harbor to Charleston, SC and back home to Boston. The best part of the trip in her mind was visiting all the different Episcopal churches along the way and experiencing some very radical welcoming. Barbara and Pat currently live in Vero Beach and between them, have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren ranging in ages from 7 to 24. Barbara McGowan's email address is: communications@staugustinevero.com

HEALTH & WELLNESS TEAM
May is “Let’s Keep Moving” Month
Genie Bushell
Health & Wellness Team Member
Greetings parishioners of St. Augustine of Canterbury! We have journeyed through another Lenten season, many fasting, some omitting favorite foods, drink or enjoyable activities. We gathered in fellowship on Wednesday evenings and shared savory potluck dinners as Fr. Wes reviewed and lectured on the first two books of the Torah, (Genesis and Exodus). The Health and Wellness Team offered an extension of this fellowship by inviting and encouraging walks on Thursday mornings in Riverside Park. All this as we reflected on the suffering and sacrifice of our dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, alone in that wilderness for forty days and forty nights. More>
