CBST’s 49th Anniversary
& the LGBTQ RAN Archive
|
|
This past Monday, CBST members gathered for a special Town Hall in which Rabbi Ayelet Cohen, Rabbi Yael Rapport, Executive Director Yolanda Potasinski, President Sabrina Farber, and other special guest speakers honored CBST’s 49th Anniversary with a walkthrough of CBST’s newly launched archive at the LGBTQ Religious Archives Network.
Additionally, as we look to the 50th Anniversary of CBST in 2023, we’re excited to build plans for celebration, for prayer, for study, for fundraising, and of course, for community fun in honor of our beloved synagogue. As such, we are offering members the opportunity to submit their ideas for how we should honor this momentous occasion. Click here to submit your idea(s).

Kabbalat Shabbat—CBST Anniversary Shabbat
49 years ago, a small group of gay Jews boldly declared that being both gay and Jewish was something to celebrate. Decades later, we are here and more fabulous than ever! The celebration continues as we mark CBST’s history with our Anniversary Shabbat service, featuring Cantorial Intern Sam Rosen, Music Director Joyce Rosenzweig, Rabbi Ayelet S. Cohen, CBST President Sabrina Farber, Percussionist Barbara Freedman, and the CBST Community Chorus. Mazel Tov, CBST!

Shabbat Morning Services
Dial in by phone: 646-876-9923 | Meeting ID: 892 6861 4329
At our Liberal Shabbat morning services, we draw on our inherited traditions in a consciously modern context. The style of the service reflects the contemporary evolution of Sabbath worship over the last century in this country, with a malleable liturgical selection. Using the Reconstructionist prayer book, Kol Haneshamah, we pray old and new liturgy in both Hebrew and English. Torah is read in a triennial cycle, and there is always a discussion of the week's parashah (Torah portion). Healing prayers are offered at every Torah service, and there is always an opportunity to say Mourner's Kaddish at the end. The service ends at 12:30 p.m.
Registrants planning to attend in person, for those arriving by car, please note that 30th St. between 6th and 7th Ave. will be closed for traffic on Saturday, February 12.
