Greetings!
Salsa, Ice Cream, Bread & "Wine," and Fish... all on a Sunday morning! ...???
I’ll keep you wondering about that for a few minutes. In the meantime, I want to share with you the exciting news that on Tuesday evening the Session endorsed Jo Wiersema, our very own Children’s Ministries Coordinator and one of our newest Covenant members, as an Inquirer as she prepares to take an important step on her way to ordination as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
Her application for Enrollment as an Inquirer will now go to the John Knox Presbytery’s Committee on Preparation for Ministry, who will help to guide and encourage Jo on her path to ordination. The “Inquirer” phase of the process toward ordination is a time of discernment and identifying gifts. This is a time when Jo will be exploring what ministry looks like and what some of the different options are in the field of ordained ministry. All of this while attending seminary at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary and working and growing at Covenant. It’s an exciting time for Jo, the Presbytery, and for Covenant as Jo embarks on this new journey of following God’s call in her life. Congratulations, Jo! We share your excitement and pray abundant blessings on your journey. We look forward to accompanying you with our prayers and our heartfelt support.
Okay, what’s with the Salsa, Ice Cream, Bread & “Wine”, and Fish … all on a Sunday morning??? Well, it’s SALSA SUNDAY so we will welcome a Salsa Band in worship, complete with trombones, bass guitar, piano, percussion, and vocals.
It’s HEIFER SUNDAY and rumor has it that there will be salsa and ice cream (ooh, maybe not together?!?!?!) at 10:00 in Bradfield Hall as we help the Sunday School children raise money for Heifer International.
It’s the first Sunday of the month so we’ll be celebrating the SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER with bread and “wine” (a.k.a. grape juice) during worship. And what about the FISH? Well, for that you’ll just have to come to worship and find out. (Hint: The Gospel reading is John 21:1-19.)
So, it’s a pretty big Sunday that you won’t want to miss. See you there!

Blessings abundant,
Clara Thompson, Interim Parish Associate

Adult Education
There is NO Adult Education on Sunday. Join us next Sunday at 10:00am in person (Bradfield Hall) or on Zoom for the class “Lazarus, Come Out… and then what?” with Covenant member Marilyn Krichko. During this class, we will explore the meaning of the name Lazarus, why Jesus was not alone that amazing day, and how we can apply this teaching to our own lives.

We had another refreshing Spiritual Stroll at Pheasant Branch Conservatory this past Sunday! These Spiritual Strolls have been happening once a month since 2022 began. We meet in a different state park/conservatory each month, experience God, and CONNECT. The next Spiritual Stroll is on Sunday, May 22 at 2:00pm at Military Ridge Trail.

Spiritual Strolls are part of the CONNECT program at Covenant. CONNECT is a program of events sponsored by the deacons of Covenant Presbyterian Church with the intention of fostering connection within the congregation and community.
The Kite Event was a success! CONNECT also hosted this unique event, a fundraiser for Ukraine at the Memorial High School Field House. Our very own Craig Wilson gave everyone a show! See for yourself HERE. We raised another $500 for the people of Ukraine, bringing the grand total to $26,901.26! Thank you to all who came out!

This week, our Minister of Music (and Pastoral Care) Melissa Hinz offers some thoughts on something she knows a little something about. And bonus points for whoever can say "Midweek Musings Music Musings" five times fast. Take 2 minutes out of your day to receive, reflect, and ponder. Click on image above.

Midweek Musings is a weekly Covenant blog with a variety of authors and spiritual topics. Feel free to leave a comment as you are moved. We are excited to be reviving this blog, and hope that it blesses you this week and the weeks to come.
