Dear Residents -
News Channel 12 Reporter Diane Caruso was so impressed with our Black History Month Honoree, Dr. Arlene Clinkscale, that today she did an in-depth interview of her in my office. Lights, camera, action! And just when I thought I could not be more impressed with this woman of quiet strength, I am more in awe of her than ever. At 93 years of age, she talked openly about her youth, her parents, the civil rights movement, being hired as a teacher in Pearl River as a black woman in 1960, and her 40-year career in education. Dr. Clinkscale is a skilled communicator who thinks we all need to do more talking to each other. Keep an eye out for the report on Channel 12 so you can hear it all for yourself.
This week, the Town joined forces with the Palisades Free Library to offer a drop-off location for all those hard to recycle gadgets, like used toothbrushes, floss containers, cosmetics, razors and more. This is being done in conjunction with TerraCycle and is just one more way to help rid our waste stream of these nasty plastics. So view the enclosed flyer, gather those pesky items up and drop them off at either Town Hall or the Palisades Free Library from now until April 22nd.
Due to the decline in COVID-19 cases, many of our senior clubs are now excited to resume their monthly meetings. Membership is open to persons 60 years or older that live in the Town of Orangetown. Orangetown is home to seven senior clubs - Blauvelt/Orangeburg, Nyack, Pearl River "A", Pearl River "B", Piermont, Sparkill and Tappan. I have been fortunate enough to visit with a few of the clubs, and I must say, their trips sound fantastic. If you are interested in joining one of the clubs, please check out our Senior Community page.
Enjoy your weekend and Happy Valentine’s Day!
Respectfully,

One Year into Orangetown’s Energy Initiative: Cost Savings for Town Residents
One year ago, the Rockland Community Power program launched in Orangetown, along with five other Rockland communities. We can be proud that Orangetown was among the leaders in kicking off this innovative energy program in Rockland County. Through this program, residents may purchase their electricity at low, fixed rates and with no contracts.
As we kick off our second year of the Rockland Community Power program, here’s what we’ve accomplished together so far:
- Through this program, Orangetown residents saved $851,305 on electric bills, relative to Orange & Rockland rates. This comes at a time when energy costs have been steadily rising.
- Residents may enroll in either ‘standard energy’ or in 100% renewable energy, both at low, fixed rates.
- 107 Orangetown households enrolled in the Community Solar program, supporting new solar projects and saving close to 10% savings on electric bills.
- Through the Giving Back program, $5,350 was donated to the Rockland Community Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund.
- Over 20,000 Rockland households switched to renewable energy through the program.
- The program provides strong consumer protection: no contracts, no exit fees, guaranteed rates.
If you did not enroll in the program earlier and would like to do so now, you can always enroll or learn more by calling our helpline at 845 859-9099 (select Option 1) or online at www.RocklandCommunityPower.com. The helpline is available Monday to Friday, 9 to 5.
