TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
JOIN US FOR MASS THIS WEEKEND
Saturday at 5:00pm
Sunday at 9:00am
Sunday at 11:00am

PRACTICE OF CHARITY
Week after week, we read the story of the Church's belief and activity through time. The book is never closed - as the living Church, as a community of believers, we are always in the process of writing a new chapter, and we must constantly renew our understanding of the Gospel message as it pertains to our time. Today we learn, with the early disciples, that we are indeed our brother's keeper, our neighbor's watchman. Even in the smallest of gatherings - as few as two or three together - we are bound by and countable to the greatest of loves. The point of the Gospel is not to gauge when we may cast our brother out; rather, it is to learn how zealous we must be to preserve our unity.
  • Start or join a small faith sharing group at your parish.
  • This week, check on someone you may have lost touch with.
  • Ask a friend to join you in praying for those who may be cut off from hope or help by despair.

We are doing our best to continue to provide a safe space to worship for everyone. Click here to see current COVID safety measures.
CELEBRATION OF CULTURES PARISH PICNIC
PLANNING
This Sunday, September 3 at 10:00am in the Social Hall
Thank you so much to those of you who signed up to help with a cultural booth, to share your culture with the community! Our parish is made up of so many amazing and blessed people from all over the world! We truly are a Catholic (universal) community!

This Sunday between the Masses is your time to plan! We hope you can make it to gather with other parish members who signed up to help with the same cultural group! There will be labeled tables in the social hall to direct you to the group you signed up for!

If you can’t make it on Sunday, email Laura, Lstanger@sjvkirkland.org for a Parish Picnic Planning Form. Gather with members of your group and turn your form into the parish office by Sunday September 10, so we can help provide you with what you need to share your culture.

If you haven't signed up for a booth but would like to, show up in the Social Hall on Sunday at 10:00am or email Laura for a planning form!
PARTNERS IN THE GOSPEL
RECENT UPDATES
Please review the Partners in the Gospel materials available to become more familiar with the overall mission of the Church, the goals of this effort, and the process we are undertaking. We ask everyone to pray for this renewal effort.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
YOUTH LEADERSHIP DAYS
We bowled, mini golfed, hiked, ate, learned about active listening, brainstormed ideas for Youth Group, Confirmation, and Esperanza Mission Trek, and we learned about going to RE Congress in Anaheim, CA thanks to your generous donations to the Annual Catholic Appeal. Get ready for an exciting year!
OREGON PILGRIMAGE
“A spiritual journey that freed me from the worries of daily life and allowed me to be wholly present to God in all things. Enjoyed the fellowship of other pilgrims and constant prayers and music from beginning to end. A touching experience of chanting Psalms with the Monks & Priests in Mount Angel Abbey & Seminary. My heartfelt gratitude to all the people who put this pilgrimage together especially Fr. Vu, Connie Du Puis, Laura Stanger, Ana Klepper, and Vicky Corporal. Bless your hearts!” - Elena Elliot
THE LETTER FILM SCREENING & PLANT-BASED BBQ
We had a fun and delicious plant-based BBQ last Saturday and watched an impactful documentary. Thank you to all who came out, and a great big thank you to the Social Justice Commission who prepared the food and coordinated the event, and to Trader Joe’s for their generous donation of plant-based meat.

The documentary film, The Letter, A Message for Our Earth builds on the teaching of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’s encyclical on care for our common home, which itself stands on the catechism of the Catholic Church and on teachings from popes over the last five decades.

The most vulnerable of our sisters and brothers are burdened with the worst impacts of the ecological crisis our planet is facing. We are called to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor. If you were unable to join us, we invite you to watch the film here. As you watch this film, reflect on how our values unite us to take action together.

Please join us for further discussion on Wednesday, September 13 at 7:00pm in the Social Hall to reflect on and discuss Pope Francis’ call to care for our creation. If you are unable to join us in person, please contact sweaver@sjvkirkland.org for a zoom link.

“Protect Life. Preserve that which sustains life. Care for our common home.” – Pope Francis
REST IN PEACE

The Funeral Mass for parishioner Virgilio ‘Gil’ Balancio will be this Thursday, August 31 at 11:00am. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, August 30 at 6:00pm in the SJV chapel, with a Rosary at 7:00pm.

May they find peace in your heavenly presence.

GALA DINNER & AUCTION
"YOU ARE THE VINE, WE ARE THE BRANCHES"
GALA DINNER & AUCTION
Saturday, November 4 after the 4:00pm Mass
We are looking forward to a fun night of good food and good friends – all while supporting the works of SJV.

Thank you to everyone who has donated the corks for decorations, we have plenty now.

Our auction helps to fund everything we do at SJV from spiritual nourishment of Mass and bible studies to bodily nourishment through Sunday donuts, Lazarus House sandwich making, and St. Vincent de Paul. We need your help – not just to come to the auction and bid on items, but also to help procure items for everyone to bid on. A successful auction requires about 300 items. We currently have less than 100 items that have been procured. PLEASE try to procure at least one item from a business you frequent or own or have a friend who owns. We need to get these in as the procurement deadline is OCTOBER 9! Thank you to those of you who have procured items and turned them in. It is invaluable to have them early and see what we can look forward to bidding on.
Procurement letters, forms, and a “tip” sheet are available in the Narthex at the Welcome Table.
We will be sharing some of these items as displays in the Narthex in October. Looking forward to a lovely evening on November 4!

Not sure you want to buy a ticket to the Gala? We are looking for volunteers at every level, so those interested in joining an auction committee can contact Ann V. at avandewark@sjvkirkland.org or sign up at the Parish Picnic or after Masses in late September. If you need some guidance on where you would best fit, Ann can help you decide where you would most enjoy volunteering, and make sure you’re comfortable!

We will be having a planning meeting on Wednesday, September 6 at 5:30pm in the parish office and Wednesday, September 20 at 5:30pm in the Social Hall. ALL ARE INVITED AND WELCOME!
