Message from Mayor Jack Tatooles

Dear Inverness Residents,
As the warm summer months continue, it is important to remember to stay vigilant to protect our homes and personal information.
Earlier this month, thirteen (13) Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) systems were installed along Inverness’ roadways. These ALPR cameras are set to enhance the security infrastructure of our community by offering real-time alert capabilities to the Inverness Police. With this technology, Inverness Police Officers will be better equipped to track and identify vehicles involved in criminal activities, thus acting as a strong deterrent against burglaries and other related crimes. Furthermore, more ALPR cameras are awaiting permit reviews from either the Cook County Highway Department or the Illinois Department of Transportation, a process that might take approximately six (6) months.
In August, the Village Board will review a proposed ordinance that seeks to revise the regulations concerning canvassers, solicitors, and peddlers. The primary objective is to strengthen the registration procedures with the intention of safeguarding the privacy of residents, preventing fraudulent activities, and discouraging criminal behavior.
Over the past few years, there has been a significant rise in online and telephone scams. It is crucial to be cautious and avoid sharing sensitive information like passwords, financial details, or social security numbers when receiving unsolicited messages through emails, text messages, or phone calls. Scammers often employ urgency and fear tactics to manipulate their victims, so it's essential to pause and verify the authenticity of the communication before taking any action.
Always exercise skepticism when dealing with unsolicited messages. If you receive such messages, it's best to delete the email or hang up on the caller. Instead, reach out to the relevant agency directly using the confirmed contact information provided on their official utility bill or website to verify any requests or concerns. Taking these precautions will help protect yourself from falling victim to scams and maintain your online security.

Maintaining Driveway Culverts and Ditches:
Ensuring Safe and Smooth Passage
|
|
Culverts and ditches play a vital role in managing water flow around our properties, especially during heavy rainfall or melting snow. Driveway culverts are structures that allow water to pass under a driveway while ditches are channels designed to collect and redirect water away from roads and driveways.
Just like any other part of your property, culverts and ditches require regular maintenance to ensure they function optimally. Neglecting these essential components can lead to various problems, such as:
-
Water Accumulation: Clogged or damaged culverts and ditches can lead to water accumulation, causing potential damage to your driveway and surrounding areas.
-
Erosion: Improperly functioning culverts and ditches can contribute to soil erosion, which can undermine your driveway's stability.
-
Flooding Hazards: Inadequate water drainage can lead to flooding, posing a safety hazard for both pedestrians and vehicles.
To maintain safe and efficient water flow on your property, consider the following maintenance tips:
-
Regular Inspections: Schedule periodic inspections to assess the condition of your culverts and ditches. Look for signs of damage, blockages, or erosion.
-
Clear Debris: Remove any debris, such as leaves, sticks, and sediment, that may obstruct the flow of water in culverts or ditches.
-
Proper Grading: Ensure that the grading around your culverts and ditches promotes water flow away from your driveway and towards appropriate drainage areas.
-
Repair Damages: Address any damage to culverts, ditches, or surrounding areas promptly. This may involve patching up cracks, reinforcing structures, or adding erosion-control features.
-
Vegetation Management: Manage vegetation growth around culverts and ditches to prevent roots from causing blockages or structural damage.
-
Seasonal Attention: Be especially vigilant during the fall when leaves are abundant, and in spring when snowmelt and rains can cause increased water flow.
For more complex maintenance tasks or significant repairs, please reach out to the Village Engineer at 847-358-7960 for any coordination assistance that the Village can provide to you and your neighbors.
Proper maintenance of driveway culverts and ditches is essential for preserving the safety and integrity of our properties. By dedicating time and attention to these often-underappreciated components, we can ensure a smooth and safe passage on our driveways while mitigating potential environmental impacts.
