Among the first opportunities to learn the true history and current realities of Indigenous people is an online class “Indian 101” presented by Vance Blackfox on Thursday, April 27, from 6:00 to 8:00pm MT. More info here.
The general population knows very little about the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island. Even the most basic topics are often grand mysteries. This is by design; for centuries the colonial project has prioritized the complete erasure of Native people. “Indian 101” explains some of these basics to build a foundation for students to stand in solidarity with Indian people across the United States as we work together to dismantle longstanding systems of oppression.
No pre-registration is required to participate. Just click "join the class" to attend.

SEICENTO PRESENTS
J.S. Bach’s monumental St. John’s Passion
May 6 at 7:00pm
St. Paul Lutheran Church, Denver
Seicento’s performance of this monumental work will focus on historically informed musical forces and techniques, beginning with the use of period instruments such as theorbo, portative organ, traverso (wooden flute), baroque oboes, viola da gamba, and baroque strings. Seicento’s singers and instrumentalists perform at baroque pitch with the signature Seicento flair, all contributing to the realization of the work as—in the words of American choral director and conductor Hugh Ross— “transcendent in its divine benignity.’
Tickets are $15 - 50. For concert locations, directions, times and tickets, visit

A DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION
Composting and carbon farming turn a major problem into a major climate solution
Landfilling organic matter like food and yard waste is heating the planet. When
buried in a landfill, organics decompose anaerobically (without oxygen) and in the
process become the number one source of human-caused methane—a greenhouse
gas that traps 84 times more heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide in the short term.
That is a major problem . . . but we can transform it into a major climate solution. If
we turn these organic discards into compost instead of landfilling them, we can
prevent methane emissions at landfills. If we then apply compost to landscapes, we can
build healthy soils. Healthier soils grow healthier plants which absorb more carbon
dioxide from the atmosphere and store it safely in the soil where it belongs.
Applied broadly and across the globe, carbon farming creates four global
SOLUTIONS:
- Restoring lost topsoil,
- Increasing soil resilience to drought,
- Restoring food nutrition, and
- Reversing climate change.

"Our synod covers all five boroughs of New York City, all of Long Island, and seven upstate counties (Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, Westchester). We are divided geographically into 18 conferences, each represented by a dean who serves as a liaison between the bishop’s office and the congregations in their area.
The over 170 parishes on our territory are greatly diverse, from rural outposts to inner-city storefront churches, with a good dose of suburban mid-sized congregations as well. Our location blesses us with great ethnic diversity; you can worship in over a dozen languages, including Spanish, Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Norwegian, German, and American Sign Language."
The Rev. Paul Egensteiner serves as our bishop, and was elected in 2019 to serve a six-year term.
