Call for Photo Entries!



In honor of this year's Summer Reading Program theme, "Read Beyond the Beaten Path", we're asking you to share photos of your favorite hidden gems of the Cedar Valley!


Email your "off the beaten path" photos from around the Cedar Valley to epiccvpics@waterloopubliclibrary.org.


Beginning July 1, we will display the photos we've received on the library's first floor. Photos via email will be accepted until July 15. These photos can be anything from your favorite hiking trail in George Wyth, to the best spot to have a picnic!

Tammy Turner, from the Healthy Cedar Coalition, is here to teach you about the art of composting! Learn the recipe for beautiful, rich compost with tips on compost styles, placement, and care. Have an apartment or tiny lot? She can also answer your questions about vermicomposting, which is a type of indoor composting using redworms. Join us for this program just in time for gardening season!

Join Local author Michelle Moine Prohaska for a discussion of her book Holy BLEEP! That was NOT a Coincidence. Michelle will be highlighting some tips from the book about how to feel better in a stressful world, focus on the possibilities, and other helpful feel-good techniques she's found throughout her journey of life and writing a book.


Her book will be available for purchase after the event: $18 for paperback, $29 for hardcover. She accepts cash, credit/debit, and Venmo, and will be happy to sign the book upon purchase.

If you're a fan of the "Downton Abbey" television show, have you ever wondered what life was really like below the stairs at a place like Highclere Castle? Could the chauffeur really marry the daughter of an Earl? Would a maid help move a dead body to protect her mistress' reputation?


Kathy Wilson presents "Downstairs at Downton", an exploration of the popular tv series "Downton Abbey" and how it compares to history. Afternoon tea, coffee, and cookies will be provided!

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach invites you to the final class of their gardening series at the Waterloo Public Library.

Love to read and dialogue? If so, have we got a book club for you! This book club meets virtually every month to discuss a selected fiction or nonfiction title. Because this club is for readers who like a book with a twist, enjoy a drink, and bite to eat from the comfort of home during the discussion.


May's selected title is Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradel.

Finally, a book club for culinary-minded folks. Join us virtually for this special book club that will bring together cooks, bakers, chefs, and recipe & cookbook lovers to share and swap food ideas. Each month, a new cookbook with stories will be chosen and be the catalyst for experimentation in the kitchen and discussion.


May's selected title is Outlander Kitchen: The Official Outlander Companion Cookbook by Theresa Carle-Sanders.

WPL is offering a weekly in-person, socially distanced storytime. Join us Wednesdays in the meeting room for stories and a craft! Toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregivers are welcome.
