WIHA Office Hours
Recapping the March Session
Thanks to all who joined us for our March 2022 Office Hours where we continued our January conversation on recruiting program participants. Specifically, we discussed the effectiveness of a variety of methods for filling workshops and the importance of enthusiasm in engaging people when you have opportunities to talk to groups or individuals. We will continue to discuss recruitment at upcoming Office Hours throughout 2022 and will share best practices as we identify them.

We also discussed upcoming changes at WIHA including a new website and focus on public education on evidence-based practices in healthy aging. More details will be coming in future Office Hours sessions.

If you missed Office Hours in March or January, we hope you'll catch up by checking out the recordings (at right) and stay tuned for an invitation to our May Office Hours session.
The next Office Hours session will be held May 17 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm.

Watch for your calendar invitation!
Capturing Consumer Insights
WIHA to Survey Older Adults to Understand and Break Down Barriers to Program Participation
Understanding consumer needs and perceptions as we emerge from the pandemic will be key to removing the obstacles that keep people from participating in evidence-based health promotion programs. Under a grant from Wisconsin's Department of Health Services (DHS), WIHA will be distributing a survey to consumers statewide to gather data that identifies barriers and informs marketing and recruitment strategies. We'll be sharing what we learn with program providers along with best practices for overcoming challenges and engaging consumers.

We plan to begin survey distribution sometime in the second quarter of 2022 and will be collecting data in a variety of ways - paper copy, electronically, and telephonically.

Interested in helping with the effort? We're looking for provider organizations who may be able to help with survey distribution. If you're interested and would like to learn more, contact Erin Eggert.

Diabetes Program Outreach & Referral Support
Referrals are a key strategy for filling workshops. It's equally important to ensure that the program matches the needs of the individual. To make this process easier for diabetes referrals, we have created a document that provides an overview of the Diabetes Prevention Program (for people with prediabetes), our Healthy Living with Diabetes program (for those with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes), and Diabetes Self-Management Education & Support or DSMES (a clinical intervention for people with diabetes).

We will also be sharing this document with potential referral sources to ensure that as they encounter individuals or patients with prediabetes or diabetes, they can find the most appropriate intervention.
We encourage you to use and share this document as a means of supporting diabetes program referrals. To download a copy, click on the image above.
