Girls Excelling in Math (GEM)Tournament

The Peabody GEM team competed last Saturday at the Village School. Congratulations to all of the girls who participated! In the Grades 4 - 6 division, Audrey Baumbusch, Grade 5, earned 5th place in the individual competition. In the team division, The "Bankers" (Grade 5 students Katherine Barth, Naomi Robinson, Barrett Bundonis, and Audrey Baumbusch) finished second in the overall competition and third place in the build engineering section. Thanks also to Ms. Sikora, Ms. Miller, and Mr. Corlett for preparing and working with our students! Congratulations to all!
Health Clinic Next Week

Nurse Tara will be off next week. You can still email her regarding COVID concerns, but PCR testing at school will be put on pause next week. If your child has COVID symptoms, they will need either a doctor's note or a negative PCR test in order to return to school. Please utilize community testing resources or the pediatrician's office and email Nurse Tara with the results.

We will have coverage in the clinic for other health-related issues for our students.
Congratulations!

Solly Schwartzman, Grade 7, is taking part in a Chicago-based debate program, Debate It Forward, and their second annual "kid presidential debate" with David Axelrod as the star guest. Information about the event is here: https://secure.givelively.org/event/debate-it-forward/the-2nd-annual-kid-presidential-debate

Twelve middle school debaters from Debate It Foward were invited to participate in selection interviews, and Solly was one of the four ultimately selected for the event. The four students will present policy platforms and discuss them with Axelrod. Solly wrote a brief policy statement and is now prepping about 10 policy topics. We wish him the best of luck!

Griffin Olowin, Grade 5, is the Level 3, Division 1 VA State Champion on High Bar and Floor for his age group. He took the silver medal in the All-Around as well. We are proud of you!
Charlottesville Debate League

Last Saturday, the Peabody Debate team competed in the Charlottesville Debate League. The tournament was three rounds long and students had to prepare to argue for either side of the following resolution:

In the 21st century, a nation's hard power is more valuable than its soft power.

Solly Schwartzman, Grade 7, and Felix Mason, Grade 6, placed first in the tournament! Nayan Krishnaraj, Logan Broadhead, Tyler Broomall, and Dylan Grist also represented Peabody. Congratulations to the whole team!
