Million Girls Moonshot
If you are a staff leader or trainer who is thinking about ways to strengthen your organization’s or professional audience’s efforts in broadening participation, these resources can help support your work. You can use them to plan and lead reflective discussions about current practices, with an eye on developing goals, strategies, and priorities that can make ISE and science communication work more inclusive.
As with all Million Girls Moonshot (MGM) events and assets, our hope is they further our collective goal to provide a million more girls with STEM learning opportunities and transform our communities to better prepare for tomorrow. Please be on the lookout for- and disseminate- these, and other great resources outlined below!
RESOURCES OF THE MONTH
In 2020, given the Movement for Black Lives, the rise in hate crimes against Asian-Americans, immigrants, and members of the transgender community, and numerous injustices that, while not new, were finally being recognized more broadly, the National Afterschool Association (NAA) doubled down its focus on building equity, access, and connections. As the youth development field evolves, so does NAA. One result of this effort is this revision of the NAA Core Knowledge and Competencies (CKCs) for Out-of-School Time Professionals with an eye toward equity and culturally responsive practices.
HelpKidsRecover.org is a new resource site designed to provide local and state leaders with evidence-based practices for implementing quality afterschool and summer enrichment programs and help meet the American Rescue Plan (ARP) goals of addressing students' academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs.
