From Mrs. Kunze
Happy Friday!

During the last month we have experienced numerous damages to the boys' restrooms. In the last week, we have had plumbers at school 4 times to snake lines because students are flushing vapes and other contraband. We are doing our best to keep restrooms open; however, some vandalism is beyond our scope of repairs.

Rheinhardt Harrison, Nease senior, wins Gatorade Player of the Year in boys cross country
The trophies keep on coming for Rheinhardt Harrison. The Nease senior received one more accolade on Monday, repeating as the Gatorade Player of the Year for boys cross country in Florida. He's the first back-to-back Gatorade Player of the Year winner in the sport for the state since Brian Atkinson of Melbourne in 2007 and 2008. Rheinhardt now enters the selection process for the National Gatorade award, scheduled for a February announcement. Harrison became Northeast Florida's first-ever three-time individual boys champion, racing to victory in the Class 4A meet at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee in a time of 15:03. During the season, he also broke Florida's 5K boys cross country record, crossing the line in 14:45 in October at the New World Fall Spectacular at Cecil Field.

If A Student Wants To Leave An Academy for 2022-23
If an Academy student checked “No” on the Intent to Return roster in December, to indicate that he/she does not want to continue in the Academy next year, a Program of Choice Drop Form will be sent home for the student and a parent to sign. This form needs to be returned to confirm that the student would like to be removed from the Academy for the 2022-23 school year. If a student decides that they want to leave the Academy, but checked “yes” on the Intent to Return, they can email Mrs. Combs at [email protected] to request a drop form.

If An Academy Student Is Zoned for Beachside HS for 2022-23
Students who will be zoned for Beachside High School in 2022-23 but are returning Nease Academy students can remain at Nease. These students will then be designated as out-of-zone Academy students. The St. Johns County School District does not guarantee transportation to students attending an out-of-zone school. Because transportation is not guaranteed to out-of-zone students in our district, families need to discuss whether they can provide transportation to students who are zoned for Beachside High School, if the district doesn’t provide bussing. As long as the student can provide transportation, keeps an Academy course on his/her schedule every year, and remains within Academy grade and behavioral guidelines, he/she can attend an out-of-zone school.

If A 9th Grader Wants To Apply To Join a Career Academy/Program of Choice for 2022-23

From the District
Dear Parents/Guardians,

With the increase in COVID-19 numbers and need to make sure we are timely with our communication, we are asking parents to use an online form to report a positive student and we will adjust how we communicate with you regarding a positive COVID-19 case on campus.

To notify us of your child’s positive COVID-19 test result we are requesting that you complete the Optional Positive Student Reporting Form located here: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=V9CzsxL8P0-S9HK-boRDUdd7PTxJF7NMpeGQuOXX5S5UOURZS1gyRERDN1pUOFZPQVFMWkhRNTdCSy4u However, should you feel you need to discuss your child’s COVID-19 scenario in detail, please feel free to bypass the form and call the District COVID Support Team at 904-547-8230.

When we receive information regarding a positive student, we will communicate to all parents in the classroom that there has been a positive case in your child’s class. In the past, we have only communicated to close contacts. By making this adjustment, we can notify parents faster and more efficiently.

We continue to ask you to monitor your child for symptoms and keep them home if they are not well. We want students to be in school learning and we also want children healthy and safe. We are in this together and will continue to work together to navigate this new normal.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions, please call 904-547-8230 for further clarification.

Sincerely,
SJCSD Administration
