JANUARY 2023 MOON CALENDAR

Moon Phase Calendar, Full Moon January, 2023 | NextFullMoon.org

THE FULL WOLF MOON

The January 2023 full moon name, the Full Wolf Moon, is one of many inspired by nature. The Full Wolf Moon, takes its name from the wolves howling at the moon. There are also a few other names that are used for the January Full Moon including: the Old Moon, Ice Moon, Moon After Yule, and Full Snow Moon.

Full Moon Names 2023: Names and meaning of 13 full moons (newmoonmaven.com)

According to research, the moon appears in different shapes in the sky depending on its moon phase, from new moon to full moon, waxing and waning moons. These essential phases are determined by the relative positions of the Sun, Moon and Earth planets.

If the Moon is in its orbit between the Earth and the Sun, the back side of the Moon will be illuminated and the front side of the Earth will be dark. This process is called “new moon”. If the Moon is located on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, the side closest to the Moon will be fully illuminated – a full moon.
