This week I decided to share a little bit from my experience with the General Assembly meeting in Salt Lake City. As many of you know, I was elected to be a Commissioner to the 226th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). As a commissioner, I served on the Domestic Engagement Committee. The committee (as was true of all committees) met via Zoom on June 25 - 27. The meeting of the full body was held on June 30 - July 4.
Highlights of the business with significant impacts include:
-
Election of new Co-Moderators of the 226th General Assembly, Rev CeCe Armstrong and Rev Tony Larson
- Election of new Stated Clerk of General Assembly, Jihyun Oh
- Passing of two parts of the Overture POL-01 - On Amending the Book of Order to Include Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Among the Categories Against Which This Church Does Not Discriminate
- Changing the Standing Rules of the General Assembly so that Co-Moderators of the General Assembly are elected at the end of the General Assembly meeting instead of at the beginning which has been the historic process. The Co-Moderators from the previous meeting will remain in leadership until the new ones are elected per the Book of Order.
- Elimination of Mission Advisory Delegates to the General Assembly with the adoption of a new General Partners classification of Advisory Delegates to the General Assembly.
There was plenty of other business that was conducted during the five days of work. If you wish to explore any of the business which came before the Assembly, all is listed on www.pc-biz.org.
Other commissioners from the Mid-South Presbytery were Ruling Elder Commissioner Sherila Tuggle from Parkway Gardens PC and Young Adult Advisor Delegate Ellie Stewart from Idlewild PC. Executive Presbyter, James Gale, was in attendance to guide and support us throughout the meeting.
I would be glad to answer questions or give you more information at any time. Feel free to come to Lunch with Mark this Sunday after worship where you can also ask questions.
Blessings,
Pastor Mark

& BIBLE STUDY
UPDATE

PW has had a great year! We’ve met the first Wednesday of each month for our Bible study except for December when we had our annual Christmas potluck on the first Saturday. A good time was had by all! We look forward to this every year.
Our ladies decided to meet for lunch in July at Las Delicias. It was a wonderful opportunity to visit and catch up with each other while enjoying some very good food!
Our 2024-2025 Bible study will kick off Wednesday, September 4 and all ladies in the church are encouraged and welcome to join us!

Remember the first time you came to Balmoral?
Chances are you may recall someone warmly greeting you as you walked in the front door, welcoming you and encouraging you to fill out a name badge. Their smile made you feel “at home” even before you set foot in the sanctuary. Our congregation is a very friendly one, but the Welcoming Team wants to make sure no one is overlooked, so we need a special greeter before each worship service.
Each greeter would sign up for one Sunday a month to be at the front door about 10:40 a.m. to open the inside door to everyone who comes – members and visitors alike – and greet each one with a smile and a welcome. (Soon we also will have a gift bag the greeter can hand out to each visitor “family”). It is a simple “job” but one which can make a great difference in making sure all who come to Balmoral feel welcome.
If you are interested in helping, please contact Linda Warren, Janice Hill or Nancy Jordan.
