“A clean heart create for me, God renew within me a steadfast spirit."

  (Psalm 51:12)

One of my favorite things to do now that I am at St. Timothy’s is to come to my office in the early morning. There is something peaceful and serene about the parish campus during this time that appeals to me.  It also gives me a chance to pray and to settle into the day. Most mornings I run into Sheldon Lezama, our parish custodian. Sheldon works hard and I appreciate all the work that he does to make sure our facilities are in clean and in working order.

Sheldon is part of a larger team at St. Timothy who keep our facilities in shape. Those of you who own homes, you know that maintaining a property is not easy and takes a lot of work. Maintaining a property like St. Timothy is even a greater challenge. We are fortunate to have a team here who do an excellent job. Rick Kisow and Brian Sutton, our facilities managers, and Sheldon Lezama and John Humphrey, our custodians, do an incredible job in keeping up with everything and should be commended. Personally, I am grateful for all they do. Thank you gentlemen!

Christians are not only concerned about physical cleanliness and working order. We must also look to our spiritual life as well. Is our spiritual life also being maintained and cared for? Being created in the image and likeness of God, we have been created body and soul. The coming of Jesus in his humanity and the witness of Jesus rising from the dead and ascending to heaven teaches us that both body and soul are important.

There are some things we can do to care for our souls and make sure that they are clean and in working order. Daily prayer is essential as well as making a daily examination of our conscience. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is another way of admitting our sins and being cleansed though absolution. Attending daily Mass and receiving the Eucharist assists in maintaining the spiritual well-being of our souls. These are just a few examples but it is important that we pay attention to our spiritual being as well are our physical being.

God bless you all and have a great week!
