President’s Corner
March has flown by so fast. Happy South and Southeast Asian New Year! Many countries, including Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, and Tamil in Sri Lanka celebrate the new year in April. This month, CAPA is getting ready for the CAPA 2023 Merit Award of Excellence, aligning with the celebration of Asian Pacific Heritage Month. The Merit Award of Excellence was established to recognize excellence in the Asian community in areas of culture, education and community service.
In April, some of the Board and Advisory Board members are attending the PACCM Spring Ball and the Thai Cultural Gala Exchange events. Good job and many thanks to the Board and Advisory Board members for their participation! We will also continue the Leadership Circle series, which will be facilitated by Dr. Jamie Hsu, CAPA Advisory Board member and Pina Vyas, past president of CAPA.
This month we are continuing our outreach, working to make communities aware of CAPA and our mission. Thanks to DTE and their informational resources, CAPA will continue to pass on any important messages to all of our communities.
CAPA’s Educational Scholarship for high school seniors has closed, and the committee is ready to tackle the hard job of selecting three applicants out of the many high quality applications that were submitted. Good luck to all applicants, and congratulations on a job well done! The scholarships will be awarded at the 2023 Merit Award of Excellence ceremony on May 13, 2023, at the Royal House located in Warren.
