Above, are three upcoming events, you don't want to miss! (Visit the SEFAA website for much, much more!)
-
Spinning Silk with Cassie Dickson on Friday 4/29 (in-person): Spend a day exploring silk! Try out drafting techniques to control thread size, learn to ply fine singles, and discover how to set the twist in your silk yarn with several different silk preparations. You’ll also enjoy learning about the history of silk, how to raise silkworms, how to degum silk, how to blend silk with other fibers, and how to dye silk.
-
Flax Plant to Linen Yarn with Cassie Dickson on 4/30 (in-person): You’ll have an opportunity to: process flax using 18th-century tools, learn different methods of preparing a distaff, practice spinning linen thread suitable for cloth, learn how to scour your spun yarn, and discover how to prepare it for weaving. Cassie will also share tips on growing flax and retting flax plants to release their bast fibers.
-
White to Wow: Kitchen Safe Dyeing with Gale Evans on 5/14 (virtual): Learn to create beautiful hand-dyed yarns with minimum fuss and maximum fun! Session 1 will be a live presentation covering the materials in your kit and how to use them. Then, you’ll try out several dyeing techniques on your own in between sessions, so that you can show off your colorful creations and ask follow-up questions in Session 2.

Many thanks to our intrepid Annual Spruce Up Party volunteers (clockwise from front left), Corrie, Betsy, Gale, Suzi, and Karen. We now have a freshly-painted exhibition wall (just in time for Let's Tie One On!), sparkling clean windows and bathrooms, and only a few thread bunnies!
