The USF Muma College of Business signed partnership agreements with campus dining giant Aramark and Mainsail Lodging and Development to provide student fellowships at Mainsail hotel properties and dining facilities that will give hospitality students on-the-job professional experience.

The University of North Florida's Board of Trustees selected Lynn Pippenger Dean Moez Limayem to become UNF's seventh president. The president-elect must be confirmed by the Florida Board of Governors. The vote to confirm the appointment is set for June 29-30.

Frank Nunez, a Muma College of Business student in the entrepreneurship program, won the Judge's Choice award and $500 at the Florida Blue Health Innovation Challenge. His business, Mind Box, is a virtual reality tool for mental health therapy. Two other USF students took top spots.

Russell Clayton, an assistant professor of instruction in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was voted 2021-2022 Professor of the Year for the Executive MBA program by the two current cohorts. He teaches MBA courses on managerial communication.

Students pitch personal brands in competition 


Three Muma College of Business students, Nia Lynch, Xiomara Montes Gil, and Ivanna Lizardi, took the top three spots in The Pitch, a competition where students showcased their personal brand and skillsets. The event was held at the Bellini Center for Talent Development. Read more.

Faculty Spotlights

Tom Smith, the Grant Thornton Professor who teaches financial accounting, was interviewed in a WTSP-10 Tampa Bay story about the sale of Twitter and any benefits to the state's retirement fund. 


Christine Andrews and Kerry Myers, both associate professors of instruction in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, co-wrote an op-ed in Accounting Today titled “Enhancing your career with a certification.” 


Dezhi (Denny) Yin, an associate professor in the School of Information Systems and Management, was quoted in stories about his research comparing average ratings versus top-ranked reviews in Science Daily, Consumer Affairs, Phys.org, and reporterwings.com. His research was also the focus of a Human Factors Cast podcast episode titled “How Top Reviews Help Sway Consumer Decisions.” 


Steven C. Currall, a professor in the School of Information Systems and Management and former president of USF, had an article titled “Fostering Innovation to Strengthen U.S. Competitiveness Through the National Science Foundation” published in Issues in Science and Technology.

Alumni Updates

Kareika Wharton (’16, BS, Marketing and Management, ’18, MBA, Digital Marketing) started as a social media and digital marketing manager at Genesis.


Paul Robertson (’12, BS, Finance) landed a new job as director of business architecture and strategy at software company SAP. He is a former USF Muma College of Business 25 Under 25 honoree.


Ben Golson (’10, BS, Marketing) was promoted to vice president of digital marketing and e-commerce, spearheading e-commerce, digital marketing and revenue generation strategy and implementation across the McKibbon Hospitality portfolio.


Betsy Bennett (’84, MAcc, accounting) was inducted into the Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay Hall of Fame.


Kendall Brown (’91, Marketing) was promoted to vice president of sales and operations for Universal Window Solutions in Sarasota.


Matthew O’Neal (’16, Management Information Systems) was inducted into the USF Athletics Hall of Fame.

Volunteers from the Florida SBDC at the University of South Florida participated in a quarterly community service project organized by United Way Suncoast. Staff members spent the day sorting donations for Radiant Hands of Tampa.

Jerrin Joyson and Cole Crosier both received Kerkering Barbario scholarships at the USF Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy Spring 2022 Scholarship Banquet.
