Bob Timberlake Returns to Bald Head Island!
Annual Celebration to savor the best of the state’s cuisine, spirits,
art, history and more!
During the weekend of June 3rd-5th, the Old Baldy Foundation will celebrate North Carolina treasures with a roster of activities showcasing the best of the state's cuisine, spirits, arts, and history. The weekend's highlight will be the attendance of internationally acclaimed artist Bob Timberlake, featuring a coastal retrospective from his storied career!

The celebration of North Carolina treasures begins on June 3rd at 6pm, with southern-inspired cuisine being served oceanside by the innovative chefs from the Shoals Club. As you dine, Bob Timberlake will speak about how our home state inspires his detailed and intricate paintings. Art has taken him around the world, being honored by past presidents and Prince Charles of Buckingham Palace. Even through the international acclaim, Timberlake can't escape the magic of home, North Carolina. This inspired evening is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to get a glimpse into the mind of one of NC's finest treasures, Bob Timberlake. Toast to an unforgettable night with cocktails crafted with local spirits from Cape Fear Distillery, craft beer brewed with purpose from Flying Machine Brewery and wine selections.

Saturday, June 4th & Sunday, June 5th, will feature a Bob Timberlake Exhibition hosted by All About Art Gallery at the Bald Head Island Association. Original pieces focusing on Timberlake's coastal works will be displayed. All pieces will be available for viewing from 11-5 both days. The exhibition is open to the public with no tickets required. From 2-4 pm on Saturday, Bob Timberlake will be onsite for a meet and greet and signing.

In addition, Sunday, June 5th, will feature a North Carolina Marketplace on the Old Baldy grounds from 12-3 pm. This artisan gathering will feature local food purveyors, decor, arts, and handcrafted drinks. Stop by to shop for the freshest local ingredients to whip up dinner in your coastal kitchen, or look for the perfect new piece to go in your home. This event will celebrate the talented vendors who represent North Carolina's rich history and landscape with their work.

Beyond a weekend full of festivities, All About Art Gallery is honored to announce that a Time-Limited Print Edition of a Timberlake original entitled Capt. Charlie's Glass will be available for purchase. This print can be purchased at any weekend event and through June 31st if quantities allow.

The event is made possible by the sponsors and volunteers who support the Old Baldy Foundation, All About Art Gallery, and Bob Timberlake.

Upcoming May Old Baldy Book Club Selection-

North Carolina Lighthouses and Lifesaving Stations

by John Hairr

After cooking our way through the history of Southport with our April Book Club selection- Classic Southpot Cooking, we are headed back the basics and will be exploring a history book!

Since the earliest days of European exploration, mariners have heard tales and relayed their own stories of North Carolina's perilous shoreline. With bold capes jutting into the ocean, sandy shoals extending miles offshore, fickle weather, and treacherous currents, it is no wonder that the coastline of the Old North State came to be known as the "The Graveyard of the Atlantic."
Author John Hairr highlights this inspiration for his book in the italicized text!
The inherent dangers of traveling North Carolina's coast long ago gave rise to a fascinating and world-renowned strand of lighthouses and lifesaving stations from Currituck to Cape Fear. For more than two centuries, these bright beacons of safety have guided ships into busy harbors, signaled dangerous navigational obstacles, and warmed the hearts of homesick travelers. Their unique shapes and stoic beauty, as well as the adventures and lore that surround them, have elevated North Carolina's lighthouses to a legendary level far beyond their practical purposes. Indeed, they have become symbols of a brave and triumphant way of life. As the use of satellite navigation increases, many of the lighthouses along the coast are being phased out of operation. Not surprisingly, a new wave of travelers have begun making pilgrimages, whether by land or sea, to visit these famous landmarks. Tourists from all over the world now make the journey to lighthouses at Currituck Beach, Bodie Island, Cape Hatteras, and others. North Carolina Lighthouses and Lifesaving Stations presents to readers the tales behind the lighthouses, illuminating their past in both word and image.
