Last week, the City Council proclaimed May as Drowning Prevention Month. The Coronado Aquatics Center is promoting water safety through May with Water Safety Wednesdays to expand the safety skills already offered in the City’s swimming lesson program. Participants are taught to always ask an adult for permission before entering the water, how to properly fit and use a life vest, and practice jumping in with clothes on over their bathing suits. Adults will have the opportunity to witness a CPR demonstration by Coronado Fire Department and practice CPR skills while their children are in swim lessons. Figgy, a 6-year-old Maine Coon, is this week’s Pet of the Week. Figgy has a thick, luxurious coat. He has recently come to us and is still getting used to the cat room, however he is already becoming a sweet and affectionate boy. With his quiet, mellow personality, he would do best in an adults-only home. Figgy’s adoption fee is $50. To find out more about Figgy, call Paws of Coronado, which runs the city’s Animal Care Facility at (619) 522-7371.

Board, Commission and Committee Vacancies
There are currently no vacancies. However, the City of Coronado encourages, promotes and welcomes the participation of citizens in the decision-making process. The City has a number of standing citizen commissions, committees, and boards which provide public input to the City government of Coronado. Standing committees serve as an important link between the citizens of Coronado and the City Council by communicating values, attitudes and needs of the community within the special area of their group’s assignment. They are an integral part of the process, which contributes to sound government. There are more than 120 citizens presently serving the City on committees, giving generously of their time. The City benefits from the expertise and energy of these individuals. If you have any questions about volunteering, call the City Clerk’s Office at (619) 522-7320.
