STRONG In The Easter Story and Friendship 

Last week in the 5th-8th grade chapel, students had a special guest, and his name was Michael Vining. During chapel, Mr. Vining talked about the meaning of the Easter story and said that Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. He also talked about John 3:16 - "for God so loved the world he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him won't perish but will have eternal life." Students also talked about what it means to be a real friend. A real friend will stick by you whenever you need them and will never leave you.

Holy Week & Easter

at Weddington Church

Weddington Church invites you and your family to join us this Holy Week as we journey with Jesus to the cross and celebrate the Risen Christ! 

Palm Sunday (April 10) We begin our celebration of Holy Week on Palm Sunday in the Weddington Campus Sanctuary at 8:15 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m.; in the Family Life Center at 10:10 a.m.; at the Bonds Grove Campus at 11:00 a.m.; at the Monroe Campus at 6:00 p.m.; and online. Join us for this special Sunday celebrating Christ’s entry to Jerusalem, featuring a live donkey and the waving of the palms!

Holy Thursday (April 14) will be held in the Weddington Campus Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. and online. This service will include the Sacrament of Holy Communion. If you join us for online worship, we invite you to come prepared with bread and juice.

Good Friday (April 15) will be held in the Weddington Campus Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. and online. We will also have a bilingual service at the Monroe Campus at 7:00 p.m. We invite you to join us on Good Friday for this powerful worship experience.

Easter Sunday (April 17), we will begin our celebration of the Risen Christ with a Sunrise Service at 7:00 a.m. at the Columbarium entrance on Providence Road. This service will be held rain or shine. We ask that you please park in the Weddington Corners Shopping Center and offices or in the Sanctuary parking lot and walk to the cemetery parking lot. The Union County Sheriff’s Department will be on hand to assist with crossing at Providence Road and 84. Limited parking will be available for seniors/handicap in the cemetery parking lot.

We will continue our Easter Celebration on the Weddington Campus with services at 9:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary and at 11:00 a.m. outdoors on the fields behind the Family Life Center (weather permitting). At the Bonds Grove Campus, Easter worship will be at 11:00 a.m., and at the Monroe Campus, we will have a bilingual service at 6:00 p.m. We will also have a special Easter Sunday online worship service.

We invite you to bring flowers on Easter Sunday to adorn the cross that will be at the Weddington Campus for our Easter services, sponsored by the Lucy Price Circle. This is a great opportunity for family Easter pictures!

NUTS Day

Monday, April 25

The Monday we return from break will be NUTS DAY!

Students may wear their own casual attire; uniforms are not required. Please bring $1 donation for Home of the Good Shepherd Orphanage in Kenya and $1 if your student would like to buy ice cream at lunch.

IOWA Testing

May 2 - May 6

WCA students have been working hard and will be ready for testing. You can help create a positive environment by encouraging your student to do their best and making sure your student gets lots of rest and a healthy breakfast.

Students will be treated to Kona Ice in the afternoon to celebrate their hard work on the IOWA Test.

iReady Math, ExactPath Reading, ExactPath Language Arts, and Accelerated Reading tests will be given during these weeks. Please see your teacher's newsletters for exact dates and testing information for your grade-level.

We love our amazing WCA teachers! To thank them for all of their hard work this year, the PTF will be providing treats and gifts throughout the week of May 9th - May 13th. Students are encouraged to send in a special card to thank their teachers. 

Healthy Hawks Field Day!

Friday, May 13

Healthy Hawks, get ready for Field Day 2022 - the 20th year of healthy competition and Christlike sportsmanship! Coach Hastings and Coach Peeler have a fun day planned that includes many fun outdoor activities for students. And WCA's amazing 7th & 8th grade leadership team will be helping our coaches manage activities during the event. 

On Field Day, please have your student wear their Healthy Hawk t-shirt, comfortable shorts, and old tennis shoes. Please apply sunscreen, pack extra water, and a beach towel to sit on at lunch.

Parents, siblings, and grandparents are invited to join us at 12 pm for lunch and to watch our afternoon activities. Lunch sign-up will be coming soon. Pack yourself a chair or blanket and get ready to cheer on your favorite Hawk as the blue and green teams have fun with a little healthy competition.

WCA's Showcase & Shindig

Friday, May 20 | 6:00pm -8:00 pm

The evening will begin with a SHOWCASE designed by Ms. Francis to highlight our WCA students. After the special show, we will celebrate a successful year at WCA with a big SHINDIG! Families may pre-order from Papa's Pizza (sign up coming soon) or pack a picnic dinner. The PTF will provide a dessert from Buck's Ice Cream Truck for all students. Extra ice cream for parents and siblings will be available for purchase.There will also be lots of fun activities for the whole family! 

Uniform Swap & Sip

May 23 | After carpool at 8:20am

Gather after carpool for coffee and to swap uniforms with other parents. The event will take place in the Youth Center Parking Lot.

Hawk Fund Update

Thank you for your generosity!

The inaugural year of WCA's Hawk Annual Fund has raised over $38,000. We are tremendously grateful for the donations that we have received. Over 90% of our families have contributed a donation/ gift to better the experience at Weddington Christian Academy. Our 1st Fun Run surpassed its goal of $15,000, which increased our total. We are overwhelmed by your generosity; please be on the lookout for some new and exciting projects as you have made dreams a reality.
