President's Message

by Max Duplant, CPA

September marks the end of summer, the start of football season and the beginning of cooler temperatures (we hope!). As we eagerly await that first nip in the air, TXCPA Dallas is announcing some pretty cool events as well.

If you’re interested in getting CPE this month, we have two great options. On September 18, AMSYS Group will present an in-person lunch and learn course titled Cyber Security for Business from AMSYS. This informative course will use case studies and interactive discussion to give an overview of the topics and strategies key to protecting the cyber security of your business. On September 28, the Business & Industry Committee presents the first event in its Accounting Professionals CPE Series. Sharon Lukich, Thomas Edwards Group partner, will lead a session titled How to Win the War for Talent, and Bill Moss, author/speaker/consultant, will teach you about Communicating Accounting to Your Board. This is a brown-bag event, and TXCPA Dallas will provide beverages and dessert. Bring your lunch and join us for an occasion that is sure to be educational and entertaining.

As always, we invite you to meet us at Blue Mesa Grill for our monthly networking event. This month’s Thirsty Thursday Social Hour is on September 21, and is open to all TXCPA Dallas members. It’s a super opportunity to build relationships – old and new – and enjoy great food and beverages in a relaxed atmosphere. Come be a part!

If community outreach is important to you, our CPA Involvement Committee is hard at work organizing some exciting opportunities for you to give back to the community this year. In November, TXCPA’s Month of Service, we have two excellent options: the Autism Speaks Walk on November 4, and a TangoTab Feed the City event on November 11.

We are accepting nominations for 2024-25 TXCPA Dallas leadership. If you know someone you believe would be a great addition to our leadership team, submit your nominee(s) for President-elect, Treasurer-elect, Executive Board Directors and Nominations Committee members to Laura McFadden by October 6. Let your voice be heard in the future direction of your professional association.

I'd like to give a shout-out to NexPoint Advisors LP for the wonderful lunch and learn event they hosted on August 22, at The Capital Grille. We had an excellent chance to network with members of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute and learn about real estate investments, 1031 Exchanges and Captive Insurance. Thanks again to our friends at NexPoint!

Just a reminder, it’s always a good time to donate to your association’s Political Action Committee and Scholarship fund. These two programs are vital to the present and future of the Society and the accounting profession. Please give.

Until next month, I hope you have a prosperous and productive September.

An Opportunity to Give Back

Rebuilding Together North Texas (RTNTX.org) Seeks Nonprofit Board Director

This is a great opportunity for someone who wishes to gain Board experience while helping others.

The person selected for this volunteer opportunity will serve on the Finance Committee as well. The entire Board gets together on the 4th Tuesday of the month at Freddie Mac in Plano. In addition to this 1.5 hour meeting, you must attend the meetings of the group you serve. These meetings are about 45 minutes long and are held virtually.

This is an especially meaningful volunteer position, and the selected candidate will get wide exposure with our sponsors, clients and other Board members.

A few MUSTS: CPA; has a servant heart; attention to details; and must love helping others.
