As the calendar switches from June to July, we are still wondering when summer is going to start. June brought cooler than normal temperatures to the province, along with some severe storms, tornadoes and plenty of rain. June had 35 per cent more precipitation than usual and the months of April and May were also well watered.
With the weather we have had it has made spring recovery on courses that saw some winter injury a slower process.

The calendar has turned to July and here in Manitoba that means the first half of the season is almost through. Just two short months ago as the season was starting many Superintendents across Manitoba were concerned with water availability. After a very dry 2023 summer and a winter with very little snow, spring runoff was minimal and river levels very low. .... A superintendent was quoted the other day as saying “Plan well, surround yourself with good people, be ready to adapt, and bring your rubber boots!”

Try practicing the 5-4-3-2-1 technique. For that, you want to look around and focus on:
· 5 things you See
· 4 things you Feel
· 3 things you Hear
· 2 things you Smell
· 1 thing you Taste
The idea is that the 5-4-3-2-1 technique helps you shift your focus to what’s currently happening around you instead of what’s making you feel anxious.
