WKU vs. MTSU blood drive Sept. 26-28
This year’s WKU vs. MTSU Blood Battle Blood Drive will be held September 26-28 at Preston Health and Activities Center.

The blood drive is an annual event revolving around the football game between the Hilltoppers and the Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders, taking place this year in Murfreesboro on October 15.

Campus and community members can schedule appointments to donate in favor of WKU by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or by clicking here; walk-ins are also welcome. Donation times will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on all three days at the Preston Health and Activities Center. Free reserved parking will be available in Parking Structure 2. All donors will receive a Tops Blood Battle T-shirt while supplies last. Volunteers are needed for this event; those interested can sign up here.
Parent & Family Weekend Sept. 30-Oct. 2
WKU will celebrate Parent & Family Weekend Sept. 30-Oct. 2 with numerous events, highlighted by recognition of the 2022 Family of the Year during WKU Football’s game against Troy. WKU students are encouraged to nominate their family for 2022 Family of the Year. Nominations are due Sept. 19.

The Kentucky Museum was awarded a $35,017 Technical Assistance grant from the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation to support planning and design for part of the Preservation Environment Improvement Project that will upgrade HVAC systems to achieve preservation standards throughout the Museum’s exhibition spaces. Wheels brings mobility services to WKU, downtown
Wheels, the leading last-mile, shared electric mobility platform, announced an exclusive partnership with WKU through E&I Cooperative Services which provided an efficient way to add micromobility to their campus. This program will also expand into the city limits of Bowling Green, creating an option that truly connects the area.
Healthcare programs offered for area high school students
The South Central KY Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is hosting two programs for high school students interested in the healthcare field in Warren and Allen Counties. The two programs are being offered in partnership with the Warren County Public Library and Allen County Public Library.
PCAL sponsors Hot Rods game
It was an exciting night for the Potter College of Arts and Letters (PCAL) and the Bowling Green Hot Rods on September 8 as PCAL sponsored the team’s College Night game against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
September 2022 Staff Star Award Recipients
The WKU Staff Senate recognized the Christopher Ware Staff Star Award recipients during its meeting on September 6. The September 2022 recipients are Julie Harris, Graduate School; Toni Dye, Global Learning and International Affairs; and Zach Marcum, Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement. SLICES: A Look Back at the Way We Were, a collection of 57 images from the archives of the Louisville Courier Journal, is on display through November 4 in Jody Richards Hall.
Folk Studies 50th anniversary lecture series begins Thursday
The WKU Folk Studies 50th anniversary speaker series will kick off Thursday with Legendary Monsters, Creatures, and Cryptids: A Folklorist's Introduction to Strange and Mysterious Beings by David Puglia who received his MA in Folk Studies at WKU in 2010. Dr. Puglia’s presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Western Room at the Kentucky Museum. Admission is free and open to the public.
Kell Annual Distinguished Lecture in Communication Thursday
Dr. Sangita Shresthova, Director of Research, Civic Imagination Project/Civic Paths Groups at the University of Southern California, will present the 2022 Carl L. and Mary Anne Kell Annual Distinguished Lecture in Communication on Thursday. Dr. Shresthova’s presentation on Pop Culture, Remix & Pluralism: Why We Need the Civic Imagination will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Jody Richards Hall Auditorium.
Nominations being accepted for 2022-2023 Faculty Awards
Nominations for WKU full-time and part-time faculty members are being accepted for the 2022-2023 college and university-wide Faculty Awards -- Full-time Faculty Award for Teaching; Full-time Faculty Award for Research and Creative Activity; Full-time Faculty Award for Service; Full-time Faculty Award for Student Advisement; and Part-time Faculty Award. The area of University Libraries may select two full-time awardees: one for research/creativity and one for service. The College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, Gordon Ford College of Business, Ogden College of Science and Engineering, and Potter College of Arts & Letters may select four full-time awardees: one for teaching, one for research/creativity, one for service, one for student advisement and one part-time faculty award. Each nomination must be for a single individual (joint or team nominations are not accepted). The deadline for submitting nominations to the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is Monday, October 3. If you have questions, call Tonya Johnson at 270-745-2121.
