President's Note
Greetings!

What a year we have had so far! It was wonderful to be together again in person at Conference this year! We celebrated being together paired with lots of learning opportunities, art-making, and fun. We were in a new location this year, in Orlando at the Caribe Royale, and we will be there again next year as well. I am hoping that even more of you will be able to join us next fall!

I am looking forward to stepping into the FAEA Presidency in 2022 alongside our outgoing President Jackie Henson-Dacey. Jackie has done an incredible job of steering FAEA through the pandemic, fostering new initiatives, and strengthening existing programming. She has been a guiding light in providing support and guidance to the organization and to me as President-elect! I am so grateful for the mentorship she provided and am looking forward to working with Jackie in my new role as President.

I am both honored and excited to begin the work of moving FAEA forward over the next two years with the new Board of Directors and our new President-Elect, Latonya Hicks! What a talented and diverse group of individuals, all dedicated to arts education and you, the membership of FAEA!

I want to also thank our partners in this work, the Center for Fine Arts Education (CFAE), under the direction of their Executive Director, Kathy Sanz. CFAE is our management company and they guide and support all of our work. We are so grateful for the work they do and their dedication to helping us be the best we can be!

The new Board met for the first time at the end of January to engage in Board training and begin work ahead. Some of the initiatives addressed were updating the Strategic Plan, collaborative work with the NAEA and other States on Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) within arts education associations, a membership drive, summer workshops, and more! One of our primary goals is to always strive to better serve our membership with quality programming and professional development. The member survey that so many of you participated in last Fall drives these initiatives. You will hear more about all of these plans as we progress through the year.

As we move into Spring, I invite you to participate in the student opportunities offered by FAEA! In doing so, you promote Arts Education, your school program, and, most of all, the students! Entries for the 2022 K-12 Student Art Assessment & Virtual Exhibition are now being accepted. The purpose of the program is to serve as a statewide assessment for visual art and promote the achievements of students enrolled in visual art classes throughout Florida. Log in to your Member Account to submit your students' entries, and visit the FAEA website for submission requirements, selection criteria and rubrics, and guidelines for digital submissions. Submissions are due March 13, 2022.

Finally, we are so pleased to announce that ninth-grade student Saniya Jones from Davenport High School in Polk County has won the 2022 Youth Art Month Flag Design Competition! Saniya's flag will represent the state of Florida and will be on display at the NAEA Annual Convention in New York City on March 3-5! Congratulations to Saniya and their teacher, Joshua Steele!

I look forward to serving you as President and the year ahead!
