Free Supplies for NYC Public School Teachers from Materials for the Arts


Materials for the Arts (MFTA) invites teachers to access the vast array of free supplies available in its 35,000 square-foot warehouse. Educators who want to join the spree can visit MFTA's website and schedule an appointment online. While the Back to School Shopping Spree continues through September 29, teachers are welcome to visit MFTA for free supplies all year long. Read more in Broadway World here.

Help Tell LIC's Neighborhood Stories


Neighborhood Stories is an oral history project by the NYC Department of Records & Information Services documenting NYC’s past, and the changing nature of its neighborhoods, through the personal memories and experience of its residents. The stories will be gathered and permanently preserved in the records of the Municipal Archives. Share your story to keep the history of LIC alive. Details

Spot a Spotted Lanternfly?


There has been an uptick in spotted lanternfly (SLF) sightings throughout LIC. Per guidelines from the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, and in an effort to slow the spread of this invasive planthopper, please squish and dispose of any SLFs you come across. Report any signs of SLF infestation at agriculture.ny.gov/ReportSLF or by emailing spottedlanternfly@agriculture.ny.gov. Make sure to include photos, location of infestation and details of any property damage. Details

Hurricane Preparedness Town Hall - Sept 17


LICP Member Sunnyside Community Services hosts a hurricane preparedness town hall with the office of Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, Council Member Julie Won, Queens Community Board 2, the Office of NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, Department of Environmental Protection, NYC Emergency Management, Red Cross and FEMA to learn more about hurricane and flooding mitigation.
