Message from Nurse Aberdeen:
As we near the end of the school year, I would like to remind you that your child’s medication should be picked up from the clinic by June 3. School policy does not allow for medication to remain in the school over the summer. It will be important for you to make arrangements to pick up your child’s medication since medications may not go home with the student. Any medication left in the clinic after June 3 will be discarded according to policy.
For your convenience, the clinic will be opening August 8, 2022 to accept your child’s medication and completed medication forms for the new school year. Medication forms for the 2022-23 school year will be coming home with your child beginning next week.
If you have any questions, please contact the school clinic at 547-8326. Have a safe and healthy summer!

IMPORTANT MEDIA CENTER DATES:
  • Friday, May 13thLast day for students to check out library books.
  • Friday, May 20th - FINAL hard due date for ALL library books and class novels, so required inventory can be completed. This day will also be the last day the media center will be open to students for FREE access. Mornings and after school will be ONLY for students who need to return books, study and/or prepare for exams.
  • Beginning May 23rd - the media center will be a “QUIET ZONE” before school and after school for students who are preparing for exams, so the regular morning hustle and bustle of our media center will no longer take place. Students will NOT be able to eat lunch in the media center anymore and they will not be allowed to wait in the media center for classes to begin and will not be able to wait for rides after school.

Student textbooks – if your students WILL NOT be needing their textbooks anymore for finals, EOC’s, or any other end of year assessments or projects – PLEASE PLEASE encourage them to start returning as soon as possible so that we can clear their accounts. CONSUMABLES DO NOT NEED TO BE RETURNED. These are books students are able to write in and tear out pages (ELA, Math, SS). Please ask them to take keep those at home and NOT return them to the library. Students who still need to keep textbooks to prepare for exams are absolutely able to and can return their items the last week of school. Mrs. Milian will be sending system-generated emails this weekend to everyone identifying which books need to be returned. Please ignore anything marked as “consumables”. ALL students MUST return their own materials (textbooks, library books, class sets of novels) that have been checked out to them and they cannot have friends, significant others, or siblings do it for them. This is so that we can personally clear their media accounts as they return items.

AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING!

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY NEWS!
Advisers: Carolyn Milian, School Librarian Media Specialist & Mrs. Robbins, Math teacher

RISING JUNIOR & SENIOR STUDENTS & PARENTS!
Is your student interested in being invited to join National Honor Society next school year? Well, here are some important details to keep in mind, so your child can start working on his/her “resume”.  These are the requirements for students to be considered as candidates for the Nease chapter of National Honor Society:

·      Eligibility for National Honor Society:
o  NHS is open only to Juniors and Seniors
o  3.80 SHARP WEIGHTED GPA (not rounded)
o  Rising Juniors (Sophomores now)minimum of 40 documented service hours IN eSCHOOL (HAC) documented by end of August at the start of your Junior year.
o  Rising Seniors (Juniors now)minimum of 50 documented hours IN eSCHOOL (HAC) by the end of August at the start of your senior year.
o  Enrolled in at least 2 Honors, AP, or DE courses (or a combo of any of these) for the school year 2022-23.

·      Eligible Juniors and Seniors who have the required GPA and required service hours at the start of the school year, will receive an invitation for an “Informational Meeting” in September to discuss the requirements and expectations of all members in National Honor Society. At that point they will receive a “Selection/Resume” packet that must be completed and submitted by deadline date.

·      Eligibility does not guarantee admission. Other factors that will determine candidacy are leadership, school involvement in clubs, events, and activities, outside leadership and club involvement (ie: Scouts, church, community groups, work, etc.). The Faculty Council (8 anonymous faculty members) review all the resumes and make the final decisions regarding invitation to become a member or does not meet needed requirements. Juniors that did not meet requirements have the opportunity to become eligible at the start of Senior year. All confirmed candidates will be inducted into the club in a ceremony that will take place sometime in October. Confirmation letters will be sent out during the last week of September.

·      NOTE – students and parents – please understand that commitment to our chapter of National Honor Society requires a substantial dedication of time and service to our school, our students, and our community. Members WILL BE REQUIRED to complete 25 National Honor Society sponsored community service hours each year of membership to remain in good standing with the club and receive their white stole for graduation. The philosophy and commitment of this chapter is to maintain a high level of service and commitment to our students, faculty, and community and this involves volunteering outside of school at community events and supporting our feeder elementary/middle schools. These expectations directly align to our chapter mission statement & purpose:
“The purpose of this chapter shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in students of Allen D. Nease High School.”

·      Parents can contact Mrs. Milian or Mrs. Robbins for further information or check club webpage
