Organizational Highlights

Welcome Message from the CWSF/WFLC Executive Director

Danielle Okst was named the new Executive Director for the Council of Western State Foresters (CWSF) and the Western Forestry Leadership Coalition (WFLC) in March 2023. Over the past month, Danielle has been navigating her transition from Director of Policy to the Executive Director role.

2023 CWSF/WFLC Spring Meeting

The 2023 CWSF and WFLC Spring Meeting will take place in Boise, Idaho, from Tuesday, May 16, at 8:00 a.m. to Thursday, May 18, at 5:00 p.m.

2023 Western Urban & Community Forestry Publication

WFLC released a new digital publication developed in coordination with the Western Urban & Community Forestry (WUCF) Committee.


The publication includes urban and community forestry stories from 11 western states centered around the theme of resilience.

2023 WUCF Meeting

The WUCF Committee gathered for its annual meeting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, April 11-13.

Landscape Scale Restoration (LSR) Competitive Grant Program


The FY 2023 LSR Competitive Grant Program is officially closed. Recommendations have been reviewed and approved by the WFLC Executive Board. The recommendation letter is publicly available to view on our website. For more information, visit the WFLC LSR webpage.


Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Grant Program

Member and Partner Transitions

  • USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station: Dr. Monica Lear has accepted a reassignment offer to serve in a senior executive service position with USDA’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer in Washington D.C. Dr. Frank McCormick, Senior Advisor for Science, will serve as Acting Station Director. 
  • USDA Forest Service Washington Office: Dr. David Lytle has been named Deputy Chief for Research & Development. Most recently, David served as the Director of Forest Management, Range Management, and Vegetation Ecology for the National Forest System in Washington, DC.
