Cierra Waller receives Trailblazer Award
Cierra Waller, Associate Director for Student Success in WKU’s Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning, was honored recently during the 26th Annual Trailblazers Black History Month program. Waller, a native of Bowling Green, was recognized with the Innovative Teaching and Learning award at the Feb. 26 celebration at Eleventh Street Baptist Church. Waller is a 2005 graduate of Bowling Green High School, a 2010 graduate of Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Health & Safety, and a 2012 graduate of WKU with a Master of Public Administration degree. “The value of education and possessing a heart of service runs deep in my family,” she said.
WKU tutor training program recertified
The Learning Center has been recertified by the College Reading and Learning Association. The recertification process happens once every five years and demonstrates that The Learning Center offers a high-quality tutor training program focused on student growth and development. The WKU Learning Center provides free tutoring to all undergraduate students at the university.
CLIMBING HIGHER
The 2023 Multicultural Retreat, sponsored by the WKU Student Activities office, was held Saturday at the Eva and Jim Martens Alumni Center. Students from varying backgrounds and experiences engaged in conversations around identity, culture and experiences related to multiculturalism at WKU. Learn More
Spotlight: Lost River Sessions
Lost River Sessions will continue with The Flat River Band and The Jenkins Twins at 7 p.m. March 16 at The Capitol, downtown Bowling Green.
Photo exhibit opens March 21 with reception, lecture
The School of Media will host an opening reception and lecture on March 21 for Shooting From the Hip, an iPhone image exhibition by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Scott Strazzante. The reception will begin at 4 p.m. in the Jody Richards Hall Gallery. In a lecture at 7 p.m. in the JRH Auditorium, Strazzante will talk about how he uses his mobile device as a powerful tool in his collection of cameras.
Kentucky Museum to host Herstory@WKU on March 25
The Kentucky Museum will host Herstory@WKU from noon to 4 p.m. March 25. Thirty WKU departments will present hands-on activities for girls in grades 1-8. The free event will include a costume contest, performances and more.
Registration open for LifeSkills Run for Autism on April 15
Registration is open for the 16th annual LifeSkills Run for Autism on April 15 at the Bowling Green Ballpark. The event, supporting the Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex at WKU, will include a 4 Mile Run at 8 a.m., a Children’s 1 Mile Fun Run at 9:05 a.m., and a 1 Mile Fun Run at 9:30 a.m. Early bird pricing deadline is Friday.

The demands on student-athletes often means they have little time for jobs, internships and other development opportunities to prepare them for life after sports. A recent student-athlete career fair gave them some resources in this area as WKU’s Amy Bingham explains in this week’s View from the Hill.
