GGUSD Invites Community to Art in the Park

GGUSD and the City of Garden Grove invite the community to attend their 5th Annual art festival, Art in the Park, on Saturday, March 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Village Green Park, 12732 Main Street, Garden Grove. The event coincides with the opening of GGUSD’s 45th annual First Impressions Art Show, which begins Saturday, March 18 through Thursday, March 23.


Art in the Park will showcase a 50-foot-long art installation of the word “RE:IMAGINE” designed by GGUSD students and 20 large scale prints of student artwork on easels in the park, as well as live performances from GGUSD students including the Rock Band from Bryant Arts Academy at 11:15 a.m.; Bell Intermediate Choir at 12:00 p.m., and La Quinta High School Vocal Ensemble and Concert Choir at 12:30 p.m. The interactive festival will also offer activities for all ages to enjoy including the Art Car, an opportunity to paint on a classic car transformed into a blank art canvas; Recess Revolution, an unstructured free-play area; LEGO® Creation Station; ceramics demos and ukulele lessons led by Garden Grove Unified School District teachers and students from Rancho Alamitos High School and La Quinta High School; and Paint and Sip, an outdoor painting experience with non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages provided.


The popular First Impressions Art Show features artwork designed by GGUSD students in preschool through twelfth grade. Student artwork includes photography, digital art, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, and more. Student artwork will be judged and awarded on Saturday, March 18 during two presentations with the elementary presentation starting at 10 a.m., followed by intermediate and high school presentations at 11:15 a.m. The awards presentations take place at the Garden Grove Community Center, 11300 Stanford Avenue, Garden Grove.


The community is invited to view the artwork at The Courtyard on Village Green, 12372 Main Street, Garden Grove on Saturday, March 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The gallery will remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 20 through Thursday, March 23.

GGUSD Celebrates March Employees of the Month

At its meeting on Tuesday, the Board of Education recognized GGUSD's March Employees of the Month including Hazard Elementary School Secretary Beth Farnell and Santiago High School Counselor Maria Ureno. Watch our video to see these two outstanding employees in action.

Doig Intermediate Recognized as AVID National Demonstration School

Doig Intermediate School was official revalidated for another three years as an AVID National Demonstration School, an honor which signifies exemplary school-wide implementation of AVID's proven college readiness systems and strategies.

The elite group of national demonstration schools must pass a rigorous validation process to ensure AVID strategies are being implemented at the highest level across all classrooms. Kudos to Doig's AVID team, teachers, students and school staff on this exciting honor!

Hazard Elementary School Hosts Career Day

R. F. Hazard hosted Career Day this month and welcomed guests from various fields (nurse, police officer, author, physical therapist, technology rep, global management rep, professional athlete, entrepreneur and business owners) to ignite and inspire a focus on college and career readiness! As a wrap up to the week, scholars dressed up as their favorite career!

Heritage Computer Science Academy Hosts Family Math Night

Heritage Computer Science Academy hosted a Family Math Night to engage families and students and make learning fun with math games for the whole family to enjoy!

Pacifica Hosts Open House

Pacifica High School hosted its Open House this week to showcase all of the wonderful academic and extracurricular programs offered. It was definitely a celebratory evening among staff, students and families!

GGUSD Celebrates School Social Workers

The School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA) has designated March 5-11 as National School Social Work Week! GGUSD is proud of our amazing social workers and mental health support teams!


This year we have experienced exponential growth of our Social Work program to 22 Social Workers, 30 Mental Health Specialists and 50 interns, with our ASPIRE social work program serving all 67 schools!


GGUSD students and staff have benefitted greatly from our mental health workers who do a phenomenal job providing one-on-one counseling, small group support, and a wide range of mental health services resulting in healthier students, families and communities!
