Meet Lexington's Very Own Children's Author at

'Rock the Lot'!

Heather Lang writes about real women who overcome extraordinary obstacles and never give up on their dreams.  Her award-winning picture book biographies include: The Leaf Detective, Queen of the Track and The Original Cowgirl. Heather writes to learn about people, our world, and herself. Whether  interviewing someone, engaged in experiential research or deep in the writing process, she has many 'wow!' moments.

Inspiring Our Children

Heather also has tender memories of her children (triplets plus one!) in the library, each with their own favorite shelves in the Children’s Room. Heather fondly recalls snuggling with them in a corner with a picture book.

She thrills at hearing from readers; how one of her books has ignited a passion or given them the confidence to embrace a new challenge. These days she writes books that illuminate our natural world and conservation topics.

More For You!  Literary Café

On September 22, hear author Rachel Barenbaum, whose new novel, Atomic Anna, is an epic adventure about three generations of women who work together traveling through time to right wrongs. Rachel speaks with Literary Café Host, Marjan Kamali, about how women are depicted in fiction and the use of time travel as a device to explore science and ethics.

Attend in-person, in the Living Room space at Cary Library, or via Zoom. Register online through the Cary Library Events and Programs page. Registration is required if attending via Zoom; optional for in-person attendees.

As the weather turns cooler and school starts, it’s time to reconnect with friends we might have missed during the summer holiday. Find your community at Cary Library! On Saturday, September 24 the parking lot turns into a family-friendly, fun-filled event, 'Rock the Lot', with stories, movies, crafts, books and more. Say hello to old friends and make new ones too!

‘Rock the Lot’ is sponsored by the Cary Library Foundation in partnership with LexFun and the Friends of Cary Library. See you there!
