San Joaquin Memorial High School Baseball Wins 52nd Easter Classic
San Joaquin Memorial High School Baseball was recently named champions of Fresno’s 52nd Easter Classic. According to Pete Dalena, SJM Baseball Head Coach this was the first time Memorial has won the tournament in its 52 years of being in existence. CONGRATULATIONS!

The championship game was played at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. The game took place at Buchanan High School where a night earlier, the Buchanan Bears played and won in a game against the Bullard Knights.

San Joaquin’s journey to the championship ran through the Central High Grizzlies, whom they defeated by a score of 4-2 over 7 innings. SJM played and won three games before they played in the fourth and final championship game on Wednesday night. Their first two wins came through way of doubleheader on Monday where the Panthers defeated Redwood High and Fresno High School by scores of 3-1 and 5-3 respectively.

Charlie Monterrosa of San Joaquin Memorial was named Easter Classic Championship Game MVP for his efforts and Max Mendes also from Memorial was named Most Outstanding Pitcher of the Championship Game.

Once again Congratulations to the Baseball boys for all of your commitment and outstanding efforts in the Easter Classic.
LAST OPPORTUNITY to Order Your
2021 - 2022 SJM Yearbook!
As we get closer to the end of the school year you are also running out of time to order your yearbook. Don't forget to order your yearbook here.

The books are $100 and can be ordered online until May 1. There are a limited number of yearbooks available and we cannot guarantee they will last, so make sure to get yours before they are sold out. If we have any books leftover after May 1, they will be available for sale in person on campus for $120 after they arrive in late May.

The theme of this year's book is "Better Together," and we certainly are! Go Panthers!
NHHS History Jeopardy Returns to SJM
After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic, National History Honors Society’s History Jeopardy Tournament returned to Memorial during the last week of March. It started in the 2018-2019, History Jeopardy mimics TV’s Jeopardy format, replete with the Daily Double and Final Jeopardy questions.

This year 12 teams of three students each competed in this four-day tournament held at lunch in the gym. The six categories in each round covered art, literature, political science, philosophy as well as developments and events from both US and European history. This year’s final round pitted a senior team against a surprising sophomore team and the final result was a tie! To break the tie, a second FINAL JEOPARDY question had to be answered.

The senior team (the 3 F’s) comprised of Anna Fagundes, Mia Fisher and Claire Fitzgerald edged the upstart and talented sophomore team of Roman Smith, Moses Vived and Bret
Wathen.

Students Distributed Easter Baskets at Catholic Charities
On Saturday, April 9, 2022 SJM students participated in the Catholic Charities, Diocese of Fresno Easter Basket distribution event.

The students distributed Easter baskets, bagged lunches, participated in arts & crafts with the children that attended and enjoyed some time with the Easter Bunny too.

All the service hours that our students need to complete must be done with a non-profit organization.

Thank you Memorial students for your commitment to constantly make better choices for the larger community. Thank you Catholic Charities for the opportunity to serve others.
The 2022 Senior Fashion Show "Let the Adventure Begin" was a Success!
The 2022 Annual Fashion Show took place on Sunday, April 10 at Pardini's! With this event we begin the numerous festivities we have planned for our outstanding SJM Senior Class of 2022.

We want to thank everyone who helped in organizing this event and especially our 2022 Fashion Show chairs; Dorothy Christensen, Tracy Kashian and Lisa Smittcamp. Also a very special thank you to all other parents, student body and staff who helped the day of the event and days leading up to it. We would not have been able to do this for the students without your unwavering support.

Emilio Carvalho will Travel to Germany for the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup

Congratulations to Emilio for his commitment that has earned him a spot to train and compete at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup to be held in Suhl, Germany. Emilio will depart the U.S. on Friday, May 6 and return home on Sunday, May 15. Emilio will be one of six USA male junior shotgun athletes to compete against the best in the world.

In January 2022, Emilio competed in the USA Shooting (Bunker Trap) selection match in Tucson, AZ. His score of 219/250 landed him a spot, along with five others on the Men’s National Team. He is in strong company; on the team are two U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit members, the two 2020 Olympians, one other man and 18-year-old SJM Panther, Emilio Carvalho.

This Team USA lineup will travel to World Cups throughout the late spring and summer. Hosting a second selection match in July, in Hillsdale, Michigan, to determine what men will travel to the Championship of the America’s (CAT Games) and the World Championships.

After his stellar performance in Tucson. In March 2022, Emilio competed in the Junior Selection match, in Kerrville, TX. After his combined score from Tucson and Kerrville, he won the gold medal and the lead starting junior position.

This is his 3rd year making the Junior Men’s National Team. He will also be competing and representing the Junior Team in Croatia at the Junior World Championships, in late September 2022.

Emilio competed in the 2021 Junior World Championships, in Lima, Peru, and ended 8th in the world.

This is the sport in which his ultimate goal is to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

We wish Emilio all the best in his ongoing Team USA endeavors!

Reminder: SJM SAT School Day Testing for Juniors on April 26, 2022

SJM is offering the SAT on our campus during the school day for current juniors on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

The SAT is accepted at U.S. colleges and universities for admissions
consideration. It measures what students are learning in high school and what they need to know to succeed in college. Although some colleges will be test-optional for the class of 2023 (test score not required to apply), we still recommend having a test score.

We are pleased to offer SAT School Day at SJM so that:
 Your student is more comfortable and confident by testing in a safe, familiar
setting.
 You don’t have to worry about the logistics of getting to a test center on a
Saturday morning.
 No one has to worry about weekend conflicts or disrupting family time.

Registration was due by April 1, 2022.
