Welcome to The Vector Newsletter: Admitted Student Edition!

This newsletter is sent to students who have been admitted to the University of Michigan School of Public Health. We know that there is a lot to think about as you consider graduate school. You can expect to receive The Vector every other Tuesday now through April, and we hope it will serve as a one-stop shop for helpful resources, important dates, and reminders. Our admitted student webpage is another great resource for you!

This newsletter is composed by Michigan Public Health’s Office for Student Engagement and Practice (OSEP). You may have interacted with the OSEP Recruitment and Admissions team as a prospective student. OSEP also manages many current student support services including student life, career development, and academic support.

As a reminder, the April 15 decision deadline is quickly approaching. To confirm your enrollment for Fall 2023, log into your Wolverine Access account and follow the steps outlined in your admissions letter. Please note that for most programs, enrollment is not complete until your non-refundable enrollment deposit is also submitted.

If you are interested in seeking a decision extension or exploring deferral options, you should reach out to your department program coordinator.

Michigan Public Health community welcomes visit from WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

Last week, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus visited the University of Michigan School of Public Health to receive the Thomas Francis Jr. Medal in Global Public Health, one of the university's highest honors. As part of the festivities, faculty, staff, and students from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and the broader university community took part in various events around campus including a panel with a group of multi-institutional academic public health leaders.

A dozen students representing Michigan Public Health, the University of Michigan Medical School, and the University of Michigan School of Nursing had the opportunity to present posters to Tedros highlighting work completed during internships and other global public health research projects. One of those students was Katie Grandinetti, a second year student in the Health Behavior and Health Education MPH program. “As a public health professional, culminating my academic journey with this opportunity—and being able to share and chat with him about the importance of community global health work—was truly rewarding,” Grandinetti said.
