Planting the Future Together
Native Tree Planting at Miantonomi Park This Fall
Friday & Saturday, October 28th & 29th (1:00-3:00 pm)

Join NTC for the 4th annual native tree planting event in Miantonomi Park! Our goal is to replenish the urban forest canopy with 50 trees each day of this 2-day event. T-shirts, snacks, and drinks will be provided. No experience necessary. Please dress for working outdoors. Groups and families are welcome; youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Don’t miss this opportunity to make a difference in the community by planting trees to benefit people and the environment.
Fall Tree Program
Growing Our Urban Canopy
Each year, NTC offers Free Trees to Newport homes in order to strengthen our urban forest. Choose from 7 species of deciduous and evergreen trees, provided and delivered free of charge.

Newport Tree Conservancy is committed to Tree Equity in our community.
Increasing the urban tree canopy provides health, economic, and climate benefits to all residents of Newport. This year we are shifting this free program from a first-come-first-served approach, which has tended to favor those areas of Newport that are already well-planted, towards an equity-informed approach; by focusing on community-members and neighborhoods that have historically had less access to the benefits of trees. Priority will be given to residents in Newport’s Health Equity Zone and first-time recipients.

This year, we are able to provide a limited number of applicants with planting assistance.
Volunteer Appreciation:
We Can't Do It Without You
Here at the Newport Tree Conservancy we make a concerted effort to reach out to the community in many meaningful ways. Part of our success is the commitment from the community itself - our volunteers. We appreciate everything you do from tree care to event support.

Join NTC for the final tree care volunteer day of 2022. Following a successful season of city tree weeding, mulching, and watering, we will celebrate our volunteers’ hard work with refreshments.

You can find upcoming volunteer opportunities here.
Field Notes:
The Grand Flora of the Gordlinia
Information from the Living Collections Manager, Joe Verstandig

I'd like to introduce the groundbreaking Gordlinia (xGordlinia grandiflora), a fascinating hybrid that has really impressed at the Heritage Tree Center this year. A cross between the legendary Franklinia (Franklinia alatamaha) and the southeast native Gordonia (Gordonia lasianthus), this fast-growing, multi-stemmed tree or large shrub captures the eyes of all who see it. Nearly doubling its size this year, the plant is currently undertaking a floral marathon, with over a hundred flower buds to bloom for (hopefully) the next few months...
