STRONG in Reading & Leadership!

WCA students enjoyed some Book Buddy time this week. This activity allows students to build reading and leadership skills on a whole new level. The Lower School students loved reading and learning more from the "big kids." This was also an excellent opportunity for the Upper School students to encourage others and put their outstanding leadership skills to work. Our 5th and 6th grade Student Council votes on a service project every month. This month's Book Buddy project was a STRONG win for both Upper and Lower School students!

Healthy Hawks Field Day!

Friday, May 13

Healthy Hawks, get ready for Field Day 2022 - the 20th year of healthy competition and Christlike sportsmanship! Coach Hastings and Coach Peeler have a fun day planned that includes many fun outdoor activities for students. And WCA's amazing 7th & 8th grade leadership team will be helping our coaches manage activities during the event. 

On Field Day, please have your student wear their Healthy Hawk t-shirt, comfortable shorts, and old tennis shoes. Please apply sunscreen, pack extra water, and a beach towel to sit on at lunch.

Parents, siblings, and grandparents are invited to join us at 12 pm for lunch and to watch our afternoon activities. Please pack a chair or blanket and get ready to cheer on your favorite Hawk as the blue and green teams have fun with a little healthy competition.

Field Day Brown Bag Lunch Orders

Parents and students may preorder a bagged lunch for Field Day. Each lunch will include a hot dog, apple, sun chips, rice Krispie treat and water. The price is $5 per bagged lunch, and all orders will be debited from your student's lunch account. Please order lunch by THIS SUNDAY, May 8.

WCA's Showcase & Shindig

Friday, May 20 | 6:00pm - 8:00 pm

The evening will begin with a SHOWCASE designed by Ms. Francis to highlight WCA students. Please have your student wear their yellow #allinhim t-shirts, shorts, and tennis shoes (no flip flops) for this special performance. After the show, we will celebrate a successful year at WCA with a big SHINDIG! Families will enjoy pizza (provided by the PTF) from Papa's Pizza or pack a picnic dinner. WCA students will also receive a ticket to enjoy a treat from Buck's Ice Cream Truck. Additional ice cream for parents and siblings may be purchased (CASH only). Please RSVP for the event and order dinner using the link below. Get ready for a fun night for the whole family! 

Uniform Swap & Sip

May 23 | After carpool at 8:20am

You are invited to WCA's Uniform Swap & Sip. Parents of current and future 2022-23 students will gather after carpool for coffee and swap uniforms. The event will take place in the Youth Center parking lot. You do not need to have uniforms to participate. This is a swap, NOT a sale. Don't forget to bring a bag to take home your new, gently used uniforms!

Hunger Doesn't

Take a Vacation

Classes are finishing. Students are graduating. Vacations are planned. But hunger doesn't stop! Please join Weddington Church in collecting breakfast and lunch items for the Union County Shelter's Food Pantry. The Shelter serves over 80 hungry people three meals a day, every day. They also have two drive-thru food pickups each month for those in need. 

Donations will be collected on Sunday, May 15, and Sunday, May 22, in Helms Hall and the Family Life Center bins. The most needed items include cereal, grits, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, soup, and individual bags of chips.

Testing Scripture & Prayer

Before beginning their IOWA Testing last week, the 7th and 8th graders took the time to pray and reflect on Scripture. We are so proud of how all WCA students handled testing last week. #allinhim #wca20strong

Cards for Ukraine

WCA Beta Club members led a Chapel lesson and service project with 5th-8th graders to create scriptural cards of encouragement for Ukrainian and Romanian orphans. The card designs included inspirational Psanky symbols that are part of Ukrainian culture. Weddington Church will send the cards to their sister church and orphanage in Romania. Cards will be given to the resident Romanian orphans and the Ukrainian orphans rescued from war. #allinhim #wca20strong
