@ Brotherhood & Gramercy Park

As an act of Zachor (Remembrance), Brotherhood Synagogue’s Kitah Zayin is committing this year’s Mitzvah Project to raising awareness and funds for Holocaust education. Meet us at the Brotherhood Synagogue for a community walk around Gramercy Park 6 times – a total of 1.5 miles – to commemorate the 6 million Jewish souls, including 1.5 million Jewish children, lost in the Holocaust. We will conclude our community event with a talk with Holocaust survivor Alex Konstantyn, whose testimony will be featured in the upcoming documentary Escape to Nowhere.

To Register and/or Donate, please visit: Brotherhood Synagogue Reclaim Their Names MItzvah Project. The money raised will be donated to the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center (HMTC) of Nassau County. HMTC’s mission is to educate young people about the history of the Holocaust and its lessons through education and community outreach.

This program is open to our entire community – all ages and abilities are welcome; strollers, too! So please join us to walk, cheer us on, and listen to Holocaust survivor Alex Konstantyn. Light refreshments will be available.

If you cannot join us, you can still donate to support this wonderful cause! Questions or for more info, please contact: MichaelMantell@Holocaust-Nassau.org.

BCRIC Announcements

The next dinner for asylum-seeker families with children at PS 11 will be held at Brotherhood on April 27. We are expecting families with fifth-graders and other siblings to attend. Many Brotherhood members have already signed up to volunteer at the dinner, but there may be other opportunities to help prepare for this and future dinners. If you are interested, please contact Barbara Stern at blee50@verizon.net

We are looking for ways to expand work with asylum-seeker families in the NYC public school system. This could include working with additional schools; adding supports such as collections of clothing, toys, and school supplies; and forming partnerships with other downtown synagogues to do this work on a larger scale. Do you have other ideas? Please contact Barbara Stern.

Names for Prayer for Healing

Submitting Names for Healing Prayer

When someone is ill, we traditionally say a Misheberach, a special prayer for healing during Shabbat morning services when Rabbi Alder will read the names of those who are ill. If you would like the name of someone mentioned during the Misheberach prayer, please let Rabbi Alder know by email. Ideally, we would use the person's Hebrew name and that of their mother; if this is not known, then we can use their English name. May God send healing to all those in need.

Important Notice Regarding Contact Information

The Brotherhood Synagogue database which stores members' contact and other information has been updated.
