CEO MESSAGE
We are honoured to share this week’s BioLinks filled with exciting updates and news. First, please join us in welcoming James Bacon, LSBC’s new Manager, Memberships and Partnerships. James joins us with 12 years of experience in fundraising and corporate partnerships in the UK and Canada. If you see James at an upcoming LSBC event, be sure to say ‘hi’!

This week, I was thrilled to attend MaRS Impact Health 2022 and participate in a panel discussion on how the Canadian life sciences sector can get better at commercializing our discoveries and anchoring them here. On June 1st, I am excited to be on a panel at the VANTEC investor event to highlight the trends and future of the health and life sciences sector. The future of our sector is incredibly promising, and events like these underscore the importance of investing in and supporting the sector’s continued growth.
One of the hallmarks of our thriving life sciences sector is the supportive nature of our community, and we are proud to champion the important work taking place alongside our colleagues. This month we joined several LSBC members in Sweatin’ for Science, Science Fair Foundation BC’s 2nd annual Fitness FUNdraiser to help raise awareness and funds for all youth in BC + Yukon to pursue their interests in STEM fields. Another organization that plays a key role in fostering a love of STEM disciplines in young people is Science World. As they embark on a new visioning process, we invite you to participate in this online survey to help shape the future of science for the next generation!

In member news, we want to congratulate - and extend a special shoutout to the LSBC members who were announced as regional finalists in the EY Entrepreneur Of the Year 2022 Pacific program last week: Dr. Tom Madden of Acuitas Therapeutics and Euan Ramsay and James Taylor of Precision NanoSystems! Congratulations to Chinook Therapeutics on the announcement of the pricing of the company’s public offering. We’d also like to remind you that Women-in-BIO is currently seeking executives for its new program, Excellence in Canadian Board Governance: Life Sciences Edition, to help build diversity in the boardroom for women in leadership. Applications are due June 3rd, and we encourage interested candidates to apply!
We have some exciting events on the horizon, such as our BC Showcase: BIO San Diego on June 8th. This event comes ahead of BIO International Convention in San Diego from June 13-16th, where the BC delegation will be represented by 25+ companies in our province. This year’s theme is “Limitless Together”, and will highlight the health care innovations, business development and the exciting future of biotechnology. We look forward to seeing many of you there!
In the spirit of networking, we also invite you to join us for our LSBC Summer Social on June 23rd, a unique opportunity to connect with peers and stakeholders while enjoying kicking off the summer season! Spaces are limited, so register today! Finally, there is less than a week left to nominate someone for our annual LSBC Awards presented by FARRIS, which will be held on September 22nd. Nominations for these awards are due on June 1st, so make sure you nominate a deserving candidate!
Until next week,

Wendy and the LSBC team
LSBC's Annual Awards presented by Farris are now open for nominations.

These awards highlight groundbreaking achievements in BC's thriving sector.
