Hi all

Welcome to those who are subscribers as well as those who are reading my newsletter for the first time. If you missed the April 2023 issue about Mercury entering the retrograde arc (shadow) and changing signs you can read that here
conta.cc/3zxk0RN. Please excuse me if there are any typos or mistakes below. Feel free to notify me if you find any.

Please scroll down to learn more about eclipse season between April 20 (New Moon solar eclipse) and May 5 (Full Moon lunar eclipse) and scroll down to read about the present Mercury Retrograde, which begins April 21 and ends May 15. I had every intention of introducing this last month but ran into some time management issues. It is important to note that eclipse season does not end when the eclipse appears, since it is important to see when planets cross the eclipse degree, so that this eclipse season does have ramifications into the summer and even through the end of the year. I speak about this in the 2-hour webinar that i presented on Sunday April 23. You can purchase the Spring 2023 Eclipse Webinar in which I talked about the solar eclipse and lunar eclipse of April 20 and May 5, and focused not just on now but when and where these eclipses are active in the world and in your chart. While I did talk about this in the Sensitive Degrees Webinar, things always emerge over the months that ensue and there is only so much I can talk about in a year-ahead talk. If you wish to order it please go to ronniedreyer.com/schedule and scroll down on that page. You will receive the two hour recording and power point presentation within 24 hours.

This is such a busy month of transitions including Pluto stationing retrograde on May 1st and Jupiter changing signs. It entered sidereal Aries on April 21 and will enter tropical Taurus on May 15. I will be approaching this in the next newsletter, but it is very important to see where sidereal Aries and tropical Taurus are in your chart. This should indicate a financial recovery that will begin next January through May, since even if the world takes a few steps forward, it will retrograde in the fall, but then it will move quickly direct January 1 and will stay in those signs.

I am also happy to say that I will once again be speaking at the Future of Astrology Conference that is sponsored by Joni Patry and will be held Friday June 2-Monday June 5 in Dallas TX. The conference features wonderful speakers including Joni, myself, Juliana Swanson, James Braha, Kapiel Raj, Marc Boney, Simon Chokoisky, Shreekala Ram, and several other wonderful speakers. Click on www.futureofastrology.com for information and registration. The annual Jyotish Kumbha Mela will take place as a hybrid conference once again at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam in Saylorsburg PA Thursday June 1-Sunday June 11. You can come for part or all the conference. Speakers include: Dr. K.S. Charak, Vinay Aditya, Narasimha Rao, Marc Boney, myself, Komilla Sutton, Charlotte Benson and many others. I am excited to offer two series of Jyotisa classes that began in March. Beginning and Advanced Jyotisa (Indian astrology). Advanced classes began once a month on March 22nd. Beginning classes began March 15th and you can scroll down for more information and register at any time since you will receive the recordings of classes you missed. Registration at www.ronniedreyer.com/schedule. Please contact me if you have any questions.
As always you can book a consultation by making payment on my website at www.ronniedreyer.com/services, and I will then reach out to you to make an appointment.

This month's lunations occur with the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on May 5, 2023, 5:33 PM GMT, Tropical. 14° Scorpio 58’, Sidereal. 20° Libra 53’, viśākhā, and the New Moon on May 19, 2023, 3:53 PM GMT, Tropical. 28° Taurus 25’, Sidereal. 4° Taurus 20’, kṛttikā. If you have any planets, points, or angles around those degrees (I would take a one degree orb) then whatever is represented by that planet, point or angle, will be prominent and important until the next lunation, meaning that if something is conjunct this month's Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on May 5th, it will be prominent until the next Full Moon on June 4, 2023, and if something is conjunct this month's New Moon on May 19th, it will be prominent until the next New Moon on June 18, 2023. The New Moon represents beginnings and can help you to institute a change you have been thinking about while the Full Moon is an accomplishment or culmination and gives the push to continue on that path. If your birthday is between May 4-6, then the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is in your solar return (varṣaphala) or close enough that it will be important for the year ahead until your next birthday, meaning that it may be year when things you have been working on will manifest, or feel like they are moving in the right direction, so continue with whatever is fulfilling you. If your birthday is between May 18-20, then the New Moon is in your solar return (varṣaphala) or close enough that it will be important for the year ahead until your next birthday, meaning a change is bound to happen, so work on that change. It could be a physical move, job change, relationship change, or simply working on yourself to integrate new patterns and habits into your life. Expect a great deal of transformative experiences that will make you want to change or take a step in a different direction. Take your time but do head in that direction, since otherwise it will happen to you whether you initiate it or not. (Scroll below for more Celestial Events.)

Spring 2023 Eclipses: Solar Eclipse April 20 and Lunar Eclipse May 5

The best sites for information about the individual eclipses are nasa.gov, earthandsky.com, space.com, timeanddate.com.

Much of what I write below is adapted from previous writings since much of the intensity and effects of eclipses do not change but what does change are the dates of these eclipses and when they are activated. Eclipses always take place at times when you may be forced to deal with issues that have been on the back burner, and is always a time to go inward, meditate, and reflect on many of the issues that the eclipse will arouse depending on where they fall in the chart, which you can see from figures below. Most important, is that eclipses are never simply occurrences that have meaning on the day they occur, even though on that day is when the physicality of the eclipse occurs and the intensity is most palpable. But as you see below, the eclipses will span a certain period of time, mostly defined by the position of the Nodes, when they cross the degree of the eclipse either before or after the eclipse occurs. This is also not one day since the Nodes move slowly and sometimes the effects will even last almost a month depending on how long they will be within orb. As you see below this also affects planets like Uranus and Pluto that interact with the eclipse degrees. If you have a point, planet, or angle within a one degree orb, those areas represented will be ignited, meaning they will be activated and you will have to pay attention to that area of your life. This is not necessarily all positive or all negative, but simply depends on the chart and the nature of that planet, point or angle. (For information about eclipse theory in general and the specificity of these Spring Eclipses, you can purchase my webinar at www.ronniedreyer.com/schedule.)

April 20, 2023. Solar Eclipse (New Moon). 4:12 GMT. Tropical. 29° Aries 50’. Sidereal. 05° Aries 45'. aśvinī.
March 15, 2023. Pluto D squares eclipse degree. (Feb 20-March 25 within orb)
May 15, 2023. Jupiter conjoins eclipse degree. (May 12-May 17 within orb)
June 20, 2023. Pluto R squares eclipse degree. (June 11-July 28 within orb)
July 18, 2023. North Node (Rāhu) conj. Solar Eclipse degree. (July 17-29 within orb)
January 15, 2024. Pluto D squares eclipse degree for final time. (December 20-January 22 within orb)

In general eclipse season brings intensity and things often come to light or are revealed that have been hidden or that we are in denial about. Because the Solar Eclipse occurs on April 20th followed by Mercury stationing retrograde on April 21st this intensity is accompanied by communication sometimes being unclear or delayed. This does not bring catastrophe but is a message to be clear when you speak to someone, be patient with others, and do not overreact with brusque or short speech. Even though we should aspire to clarity throughout the year, it becomes especially important during Mercury's retrograde motion (April 21--May 15) and even more important because it occurs during eclipse season. What it shows you is that this eclipse will be in effect for quite a while because the degree of the eclipse is what I call a "hot" degree, meaning it gets activated every time a planet hits that degree. Most important is that when Pluto forms a square it is not just potent on that day because it moves so slowly. You can see the dates I think that the planets will influence the eclipse degree. In short it means that the eclipse is not just here and gone but will be powerful on those dates above. Pluto will transform whatever the eclipse ignites, while Jupiter in mid-May will bring something fortuitous to that area of the chart that the eclipse falls in. If you do not know the degrees of your chart you can always see the house where Aries falls, since the eclipse is there (as the Node will) both tropically and sidereally, though remember that it really is more about the degree and anything around that degree. I would also take a one degree orb on either side so that if you have a point, planet, or angle, between tropical 28 Aries-0 Taurus, and sidereal 4-6 Aries, then the eclipse and the planetary actions above will apply. This is a time of great transformation so be prepared to discard habits and patterns that no longer work. You may discard a bad relationship, old car, job, or home and move on to something new. But take your time since this will be a process that will first culminate around July 18 or so when Rahu hits the eclipse degree, and then as the adjustment and transformation takes place through the beginning of 2024 when Pluto squares the degree for the last time.

As a general rule for the world, if you look at the dates above and think about what might have started the first time Pluto squared the eclipse degree in March, you will see that this is a slow rearranging of things happening in the world. If you live in the United States, you know that on March 10th, Silicon Valley Bank failed, leashing a crisis in the banking system that is still ongoing with First Republic Bank failing and being bought by JP Morgan Chase on May 1st, the day that Pluto stationed retrograde. If you look at Pluto squaring the eclipse degree it makes sense that this is ongoing and will have ramifications throughout the world, perhaps changing the way banking is done, which could create more regulations, and stock market ups and downs. However there are so many things going on in the world, from what seems like a plethora of gun violence, to protests in France and Israel that could affect policy changes, that we just have to stand back and watch things unfold. Sometimes it is more intense around the eclipse, and this week alone, on May 3rd right before the eclipse on May 5th, Serbian school children were killed, there was an Atlanta shooting spree, and the man who murdered five people in Cleveland Texas last week was caught. But intensity can also be celebratory even though often we remember the difficulties.

Secrets come out of the closet and it begins at least a week before the eclipses begin. Watch for revelations in the media but also in government and in your personal lives. Be honest if you are holding something back from a friend, family member, partner or colleague since you will probably find out anyway. But mostly work on yourself, go inward, take care of your mental and physical health so that you will be mentally and physically strong and can withstand many changes that will continue to unfold.

May 8, 2022. Uranus D opposite Lunar Eclipse Degree. (April 21-May 18 within orb)
September 9, 2022. South Node (Ketu) conjoins. Lunar Eclipse Degree (September 8-26 within orb)
January 14, 2023. Uranus R opposite Lunar Eclipse Degree.
January 30, 2023. Uranus D opposite Lunar Eclipse Degree. (Uranus went direct on January 22nd and was within orb
from December 20-February 28 meaning that it stationed on the eclipse degree)
May 5, 2023. Lunar Eclipse (Full Moon). 17:33 GMT. Tropical. 14° Scorpio 58’. Sidereal. 20° Libra 53’  viśākhā
(“Twin” eclipse to Lunar Eclipse November 8, 2022. Tropical. 16° Taurus 0’. Sidereal. 21° Aries 56’. bharaṇī.)

Remember that the message that I gave above about looking inward applies to the entire eclipse season which lasts through a few days after the lunar eclipse on May 5th. Go with the intense energy that an eclipse brings or it will occur anyway and you will be unprepared. But remember to meditate, propitiate the Sun and Moon, and reflect on everything that is occurring in your life especially when it comes to the area that the eclipse is hitting in your chart. Reflect on the world around you, send positive energy and prayers to everyone, and enjoy inner peace. When you gain strength to stay calm amidst the storm ahead then you will be able to provide strength to yourself and others.

Because I look at eclipses as culminating when the Node hits the eclipse degree, I feel that this particular eclipse might be the culmination of many of the planetary phenomena that have occurred around the degree of the eclipse. We just have to look at the above dates to see that much of what may finally come to an end, if you have made that journey inward towards transformation, began last year first when Uranus fell around the eclipse degree in May, and then the Node hit the degree in September, and then the lunar eclipse of November 8 also occurred very close to this eclipse so that if you have a planet, point or angle within the degree of the May 5 eclipse, all the other transits of the last year would have begun the process of transformation. Sometimes we do have a world event that also coincides with the power of the eclipse. Remember that sometimes the Node occurs on the eclipse degree prior to the occurrence of the eclipse, and sometimes the Node occurs on the eclipse degree after the eclipse takes place. In this case we see that Queen Elizabeth passed away on September 8, 2022, and the South Node (Ketu) occurred on the eclipse degree on September 9, 2022, but it was practically exact on the 8th. This began something monumental in the world, and whether or not you believe in the monarchy is not the issue. The issue is that it was a monumental event that made an impact beyond just the UK. And now King Charles will be officially crowned King at his coronation on May 6th the day after the eclipse, marking the culmination of the passing of the torch. Again, if there is something in your chart that falls around this degree, you may also experience a culmination of something that has been in the process of growing since September 2022, but in fact perhaps even since May 2022, when Uranus first hovered around this eclipse degree. When the outer planets are involved things happen slowly over time. If you do not have a planet, point, or angle, around that degree, then you can take a look at which house tropical Taurus or sidereal Aries occupies and that may provide an idea of which areas of your life have been affected.
Mercury Retrograde April 21-May 15, 2023.

April 7, 2023. Mercury/Budha enters Retrograde Arc (Shadow). Tropical. 05°Taurus 50' Sidereal 11°Aries 45’ aśvinī
April 21, 2023. Mercury/Budha stations Retrograde (Vakra). Tropical 15° Taurus 21' Sidereal 21°Aries 32’. bharaṇī
May 15, 2023. Mercury/Budha stations Direct. Tropical. 05°Taurus 50' Sidereal 11°Aries 45’ aśvinī
May 31, 2023. Mercury/Budha Leaves Retrograde Arc (Shadow). Tropical 15° Taurus 21' Sidereal 21°Aries 32’. bharaṇī

What I write here is often repeated when I speak about Mercury retrograde and some of this appeared in last month's newsletter since the retrograde arc and Mercury changing signs is still important.

You are especially affected by Mercury (which you may think is inconsequential but really is not) when you see that it is in one sign for a little over two months and you understand what that area of your chart represents. But you are especially affected during this retrograde arc between April 7 and May 31 if you have any planets, points, or angles, between tropical 5° Taurus 50'-15° Taurus 21' or between sidereal 11° Aries 45’-21° Aries 32’. Remember that Mercury will cross those degrees three times, but if you have something within one degree of the station (the degree it goes retrograde or direct) Mercury will conjoin it twice, but when it conjoins the station it will be there for a few days and feel especially intense.

Remember that even though this retrograde arc is from April 7 through May 31, it is most intense when Mercury is retrograde between April 21 and May 15 as seen above. Remember that during these times even little annoyances can interfere with our usual schedules, plans, and even emotions, so it is most important that at the moment, you prepare yourself by doing any mental or physical exercise that helps you stay calm and focused. Do not get rattled by little things since you can easily turn something minor into something major. If you suspect your devices are acting funny, or slowing up, do not wait until they break down, but give them a check up. If a project gets delayed, then just call up your patience since getting flustered and impatient are not going to change the situation, but your attitude well. And if communication with someone close to you turns into disagreement, just pull away and change the subject. Nothing gets resolved during Mercury retrograde, and if you have any planets, points or angles in between the retrograde arc, you are affected between April 7 and May 31.

The Mercury retrograde period means that if you keep on top of things, and tackle them before they occur, Mercury retrograde will not be that awful. Mercury Retrograde always brings the same general uneasiness, even though much of it is unwarranted. Sure, there will be the mild annoyances and disruptions, which may include communication snafus, scheduling conflicts, misunderstandings, and transportation slowdowns, and if you are prepared and figure these things are possible, they will not throw you off your center when they occur. You might find this particular retrograde more intense than usual and that is because the solar eclipse of April 20 occurred a day before the Mercury retrograde station on April 21, Pluto stationed retrograde on May 1, and the last eclipse of the season, the lunar eclipse, occurs on May 5. Experience has taught me that when a retrograde cycle includes other planetary phenomena like other planetary stations and eclipses, the period will be especially intense, and you should pay attention to the area of your chart where Mercury travels through. Additionally Jupiter changes signs according to both zodiacs. According to the sidereal zodiac, Jupiter entered Aries on April 21 and according to the tropical zodiac, Jupiter enters Taurus on May 15.

Remember to think before you speak, do not overreact to what others say and do, and refrain from juggling your usual array of activities. Mercury multitasks well when it moves forward at a steady pace, and not when it appears to slow up, which is what retrogrades are all about. Retrogrades are a great time to look inward and revise and fix something you have previously worked on since once it goes direct you will be able to move forward with something new that you have incorporated in a project, relationship, move, or just with your own appearance, attitudes, and goals. Be quiet, meditate, and look inside. Be more alert than usual, develop more patience, and generally take things slower. Look inward and you will be able to problem solve. Retrogrades are always a time for reflection and revision.
