Dear Parents,
 
On behalf of all school personnel, I want to wish all parents, moms and dads, a wonderful Mothers’ Day and a restful and peaceful Fathers’ Day (since we will not be here in June). As parents you are the first educators of your children and we are thankful that you have chosen to share your most precious gifts with us.
 
EASTER IS NOT JUST A DAY BUT A SEASON
The Easter season lasts for 50 days and we are right in the middle of it! At yesterday’s Mass, Fr. Del talked about being a disciple and what that means. The actual translation of disciple is “learner." Fr. Del spoke to the children about being a learner of Christ; that we are gifted with faith, and even though we cannot prove that Christ was raised from the dead, our faith helps us to believe. 
 
We need to take time in this Easter season to deepen our relationship with God. One way we can do that is by practicing our faith with our faith community at weekend Masses. I encourage and implore you to enrich your students’ faith life by bringing them to church and allowing them to worship together with like-minded Christians.

Grades K-2: Zeal - Loving God so much it gives you energy
Saint of the Month: St. Paul, 3-65 AD, Turkey
Feast Days: January 25 and June 29
 
Before he comes to believe in Jesus Christ, St. Paul was so angry at those who followed Jesus that he had them put in jail. After Jesus appeared to St. Paul in a special way, St. Paul was so filled with love for Christ that he traveled everywhere he could to spread the good news of the Gospel.
 
Grades 3-5: Zeal - Being driven by an intense love for God
Saint of the Month: St. Dominic de Guzman, 1170-1221, Spain
Feast Day: August 8
 
St. Dominic was so energetic about spreading the faith that he is sometimes called the “athlete of Christ!" St. Dominic wanted to make sure that everyone knew the truth about God. To do this, he started the Dominican Order to teach everyone about God and his good news of salvation. St. Dominic and his Dominican brothers traveled to many places in Europe on foot, spending their days and nights teaching and preaching about God to the people, some of whom were spreading confusion and error about God and his church.
 
At one point these people tried to kill St. Dominic, but his only response was to rejoice that God found him worthy to suffer for the truth in imitation of Jesus. Because of St. Dominic’s zeal, his brothers and sisters continue to teach about God throughout the world.
 
Grades 6-8: Zeal - Being driven by an intense love for God
Saint of the Month: St. Francis Xavier, 1506-1552, Spain
Feast Day: December 3
 
“The thought of thanking God for His goodness would certainly stir most university students to meditate on spiritual realities, to listen actively to what God is saying to them. They would forget their own desires, their human affairs, and give themselves over entirely to God’s will and his choice. They would cry out with all their heart: Lord, I am here! What do you want me to do? Send me anywhere you like - even to India!” These words of St. Francis Xavier sum up his whole life as one of the greatest missionaries the Church has ever known, a man on fire with the love of God.
 
Raised in a wealthy family from the Basque region of Spain, Francis met St. Ignatius of Loyola at the University of Paris. The founder of the Jesuit Order found a ready recruit in the energetic young nobleman. One of the first missionary priests in his community, the life of St. Francis Xavier reads like an action-adventure story: Sent to the shores of India and the Far East, he dined with headhunters, bathed the sores of lepers, and taught the faith to Indian children, baptizing 10,000 in a single month. He endured extreme weather conditions on long, primitive sea voyages, much like St. Paul. During less than 20 years as a priest, he traveled thousands of miles, most of it on his bare feet. God granted him the gift of tongues (speaking in the multitude of languages of those he served) as well as the ability to raise people from the dead, calm storms, prophesy, and heal. Completely spent in body from his labors in the service of God, St. Francis Xavier died on the shores of China at the age of 46.
 
WE ARE SEEKING EDUCATION COMMISSION MEMBERS
The St. Veronica Education Commission is focused on providing a model school that balances “Catholic and Academic” excellence. The primary objective of the Education Commission is to establish policies and procedures which support the vision and mission of St. Veronica Parish as well as offer non-binding recommendations after ample discussion, and appropriate and reasonable research of pertinent topics. The Education Commission is advisory and consultative to the Pastor, Principal, and Coordinator of Children’s Faith Formation with respect to the formulation of parish organizations, school, and REP procedures.

CEREAL COLLECTION UPDATE
Students have until Monday, May 9 to bring in boxes of cereal that we will donate to area Food Banks. If a homeroom has an average of 2 boxes per student, they will earn an out-of-uniform day on Wednesday, May 10th as we watch the dominos (cereal boxes) fall! As of today, we have collected over 500 boxes!!! Here is the breakdown:

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL DISMISSAL
Last day of school dismissal forms for students in grades 1-7 are being sent home today/tomorrow. Be sure to complete this important form and return it to your child's homeroom teacher as soon as possible. Please adhere to the turn-in deadline in order to make dismissal on June 1st at 11:00am run as smoothly as possible!
The PTO has extended nominations for open Board positions! It's a great way to get involved!
The St. Veronica PTO has open positions on the Board for the 2022-2023 school year, and we would like to invite you to apply to contribute to the ongoing success of the activities and programs that the PTO brings to our school. Each of the positions has a 2-year term. Descriptions of the open positions are listed below:

  • Events Coordinator - Market, communicate, and recruit an event chair for each PTO sponsored event.  Work with event chairs and PTO Treasurers to assess financial needs and ensure events are within budget. Maintain clear communication channels regarding PTO events. The Events Coordinator does not have to attend/be present at each event, but needs to communicate with each Event Chair to ensure that they will be present at the event they are coordinating.

  • Treasurer 1 - collects and deposits money from events, tracks income and spending, and writes checks for purchases and reimbursements.

  • Treasurer 2 - prepares monthly financial statements and prepares for annual audit.

If you are interested in any of the openings, please complete a Statement of Interest form. If you have any questions about the positions and their roles, please contact Pepper Wright, PTO Recording Secretary.

A NOTE FROM THE PARISH BUSINESS OFFICE
When requesting a meeting space in the Ministry Center through our online reservation format, please make sure that only the room you are requesting is checked. The place you check will be Blue. If any other rooms, including the ministry center, are blue in the box that needs to be checked, uncheck them. Following this procedure will enable the business office to approve your request in a timely manner. When possible, please allow 2 weeks lead time. This will allow for adequate time to hit the bulletin. Thank you for your understanding!
