Roaring through the Month
Bengal Family Weekend - Thanks for coming!
Despite the fact that Idaho saved up all of its rain for our Bengal Family Weekend, we had a great time and hope that you did as well! We saw many smiles and heard many good-natured jokes about the weather from our friends and family members...even though those jokes were slightly muffled by hoodies and cold lips...and we loved sharing the weekend with you. Thank you for coming! Is there something in particular you would like us to consider including in next year’s Bengal Family Weekend? Let us know at bengalfamilynetwork@isu.edu.
Is your student planning ahead for class registration?
For the last decade, class registration has opened at midnight. This year, responding to feedback from ASISU and the President’s office, registration will open at 7:00 a.m. Registration begins by class level on Monday, November 8, and is open to all students on Monday, November 15. If your student has questions about the registration time, contact the Office of the Registrar, but this is also an excellent time to connect with an advisor. How is your student doing in classes? Does your student need to talk about options or adjust the overall plan? If the courses your student is taking are not engaging, or if your student is struggling to succeed, let an advisor help! Encourage your student to talk about whether a change of major is what is needed or if some extra support with study strategies might do the trick. Remember that students may also visit the Career Center counselors, whose services are free to them. The CC counselors can help students figure out what they like, what they truly want to spend their time doing, and how to get there. If your student is feeling unsure about his or her plans, remind them that this is a very normal experience and that we have tons of resources to help them find the majors and careers that they can love!
Ways to help your student succeed: Review the registration schedule.
Registration for Spring 2022 classes begins on Monday, November 8, for continuing ISU students. Seniors are able to register on this day, Juniors become eligible on November 10, Sophomores on November 12, and first-year students can register for classes on November 15. Students may book an appointment with their academic advisor on the Advisor Directory webpage. Additionally, ROAR into Registration, a one-stop-shop registration event, will be held in the PSUB Quad Lounge November 15-19. All colleges will have advisors on hand to help students register for their Spring 2022 classes.

"What Is Dating Violence?" panel discussion
Domestic/Dating abuse can be evident in a few ways. A panel discussion will be held on October 21 at 3:00 p.m. in the North and Middle Fork rooms in the Pond Student Union. This panel will feature experts who can illustrate how to recognize signs of abuse. The panel will also address what to do if you or someone close to you is in a violent relationship, what you need to expect if you report someone for abuse, and what resources are available on campus and in the community. RSVP to richstep@isu.edu
Domestic Violence Awareness month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. College-aged women (between 16-24) have the highest per capita rate of intimate partner violence. 21% of college students report having experienced dating violence by a current partner, and 32% of college students report experiencing dating violence by a previous partner. Peer pressure, the presence of drugs and alcohol, stressful schedules, tight-knit friend groups, and social media contribute to higher rates of abuse, sexual assault, and stalking for students. Young people also have limited relationship experience, and often if a high school relationship was at all violent or unhealthy, it is likely that future college relationships will be unhealthy too.
Diversity Week - October 25-29
Diversity Week is an opportunity to explore the many different experiences that make us who we are as a community. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate in discussions and activities designed to heighten awareness about the different cultures, experiences, and perspectives on our campus and celebrate those contributions.
Survivors of Suicide Loss Connection Group
