CFX will be investing $4 Billion in the Central Florida region over the next 5 years through the Fiscal Year 2023-2027 Five-Year Work Plan. The CFX Board adopted the new plan May 12, 2022. As a regional transportation agency, this historic investment by CFX will help with critical infrastructure needs to address the rapid population growth in one of the fastest growing regions in the nation. The plan outlines how CFX will continue to provide Central Floridians with a world-class, integrated mobility network that drives economic growth and improves quality of life.
CFX APPROVES RESOLUTION TO PROTECT CONSERVATION LANDS
During the May Board Meeting, the CFX Board voted unanimously to approve a Resolution of Support increasing the protection of conservation lands within the Central Florida region. The resolution, brought forth by CFX board member and Seminole County Commissioner Lee Constantine, includes a list of environmental enhancements including $13 million for restoration and maintenance of over 1,550 acres of donated land in Orange and Osceola counties.

The Resolution is related to the proposed 9-mile Osceola Parkway Extension (SR 534), which includes a linear easement for the 1.3 mile-section that would go through the southwest corner of Split Oak Forest in Osceola County. The new expressway will help relieve traffic congestion and improve connectivity in one of the fastest growing regions in the country.
Construction Update
Did you know that tolls you pay on CFX expressways, stay right here in Central Florida? Your toll dollars are invested in critical infrastructure projects that allow CFX to meet our region’s growing travel demands.

Recently, CFX Construction Manager, Jack Burch P.E., presented an update on projects in the Central Florida Area. Please see below for some highlights on ongoing projects.
In February 2021, CFX began widening the existing two lane road to a four lane divided road on SR 538/Poinciana Parkway from Ronald Reagan Parkway to CR 580/Cypress Parkway. This 7-mile capacity improvement project has an anticipated completion of Mid 2023.
As of January 2022, all 5 segments of this project are under construction, which includes 22 miles of roadway capacity improvements. The corridor is scheduled to be complete by the 1st quarter of 2024.
In January 2022, CFX began the road capacity improvements on SR 429 between Tilden Road and SR 414. Starting in June, over 13 miles of SR 429 will be under construction. The full corridor widening is scheduled to be completed in the 1st quarter of 2025.
This CFX signature project will enhance traffic flow around the north entrance to the Orlando International Airport. The project will add an additional travel lane in each direction of SR 528 between Conway Road and Goldenrod Road and seven new fly-over bridges at the SR 528/SR 436 interchange to provide smoother, uninterrupted access to and from Orlando International Airport (OIA).

CFX HOSTS FIRST ANNUAL OCPS STEM FIELD TRIP
CFX hosted nearly 50 STEM students from 22 Orange County high schools to spend the day learning about the future of Autonomous Vehicles (AV) and how the technology could impact future transportation. After gathering at the CFX headquarters to hear from the CFX Team, the students visited the headquarters of Beep, a Lake Nona-based company that is delivering the next generation of transportation with driverless, electric, multi-passenger vehicles. Then, the students headed to the University of Central Florida where they learned about AV-focused careers, the University’s work on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and the school’s new AV shuttle.

SMART DRIVERS, SAFE WORKERS
CFX urges all drivers to remember construction crews are hard at work preparing CFX roads for your future travel needs. Please stay alert to prevent crashes, fatalities and injuries — keeping both workers and drivers safe.

I-4 Express, is intended for longer trips along the interstate, so I-4 Express has a limited number of entrance and exit points to help drivers bypass congestion. Some vehicles are not permitted within the tolled lanes. Tolls will only be collected electronically and drivers must have a transponder, such as E-PASS to pay for tolls in I-4 Express lanes. All E-PASS transponders, including the free E-PASS Sticker, KnightPass, GatorPass, NolePass and Uni will work on I-4 Express.

Any two-axle vehicle equipped with an active, properly mounted transponder can use I-4 Express. Vehicles with three or more axles or those towing trailers, boats or other types of vehicles are not allowed. Pre-registered vanpools and buses can use I-4 Express for free.
