Inverness Community Alert
April 24, 2023
Dear Inverness Residents:

During the past few months, Inverness and our neighboring communities have seen an increase in residential burglaries. The offenders have been making forced entry through doors or windows by breaking the glass. Once inside, they target master bedrooms and office areas and steal jewelry and cash.

The Inverness Police Department is working with other community police departments experiencing similar crimes.

The Inverness Police Department requests your assistance in capturing or deterring these criminals.

  1. Set Your Alarms
  2. Leave Lights on in and outside your home
  3. Utilize the Away from Home Watch Program when leaving for an extended period of time.
  4. If you see someone or something suspicious, call 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY so police can respond to the area as soon as possible.

We must work as a community to stop this activity.

The Inverness Police Department
9-1-1 IS NOT ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES IT IS FOR ANY POLICE RESPONSE
Burglary Prevention Tips
Burglary prevention is an essential aspect of home security. Here are some tips to help you prevent burglaries:

  • Be Alert: Call 911 for any suspicious activity! This includes someone coming to the door and giving you information that is out of the ordinary (We are parking our trailer on the street tomorrow. I need you to go outside).

  • Install and utilize a home security system: A working security system with cameras and alarms is an effective way to deter burglars.

  • Use high-quality locks: Use sturdy locks on all doors and windows. Deadbolts are especially effective.

  • Secure your windows: Make sure your windows have secure locks and install security film to make it harder for burglars to break them.

  • Use lighting: Install motion-activated lights outside your home to illuminate any suspicious activity.

  • Use timers for lights and electronics: Use timers for your lights and electronics to make it look like someone is home.

  • Keep your home well-maintained: Keep your lawn mowed and bushes trimmed to avoid giving burglars a place to hide.

  • Don't advertise your absence: Avoid sharing your travel plans on social media indicating that you're away from home.

  • Get to know your neighbors: Having a good relationship with your neighbors can help keep an eye on your home when you're away and alert the authorities if they see anything suspicious.

Most important is Call 911 for ANY suspicious activity immediately! Please describe the person/vehicle as they may be parked or on foot in the neighboring area.
