ISSUE THIRTEEN OF
FIRST FOUNDATIONS

The new issue of our First Foundations magazine is hot off the press, and ready for you to read! Magazines are currently available in the Lewis building lobby by the elevators. There are also copies of the magazine located at all entrances to the sanctuary for you to grab on your way out of worship. Feel free to get an extra copy for a neighbor who might like to know more about who we are, as we continue to reach beyond our walls. We are so grateful for all of our contributors (in order of their articles) — Claire Willmschen, Elizabeth Riley, Chris Hoover, Wayne Hager, Jen Foster, Leah Reed, Derek Foster, Debbie Willmschen, and Noel Tucker. A special thanks to our First Foundations magazine team that makes every publication come to life — Jen Foster, Anne Bullard, LouAnn Liverman, Debbie Willmschen and Leah Reed. You may access this issue through this interactive copy, as well as previous issues of our magazines on the church website. If you would like to receive a copy of First Foundations in the mail, please email Deborah. We hope you enjoy reading about Advocate from a wide range of voices from our community of faith!
CHILDREN'S MISSION CELEBRATION

Mr. Rogers, cardigan and all, will be making a special appearance next Wednesday night, May 17, for our children's Mission Celebration. He will introduce us to neighborhoods all around the world where Christ’s love is being shared. FBC fifth graders will be Mr. Rogers’ field reporters in these far and near corners of the world, and our Mission Friends, RAs, and GAs are eager to share some of what they have learned this year! Supper is at 5:15pm, and our program will begin at 6pm in the Fellowship Hall. Won’t you be our neighbor and join us?

GET READY FOR THE END-OF-YEAR PICNIC!

Save the date! Wednesday, May 31 is our annual Pullen Park picnic! We hope you will join us as we celebrate the last day of our Centerpoint gatherings with wonderful food, fellowship time, and the second annual team scavenger hunt for those who wish to participate. The picnic will be held from 5:30-8pm at shelter 4 (520 Ash Avenue) within Pullen Park.

While all are welcome, we ask that you please make a reservation ahead of time via the church website or by calling Deborah Mastrodonato (919-832-4485). These reservations are greatly appreciated, as they let us know how much food needs to be prepared for the evening. This is one of the most fun one-night events for the whole family that our church does. Don’t miss out on the beautiful weather in the park, the legendary cookout, joyous friendship, and a chance to take home a trophy! We hope to see you there on May 31

IT'S ALMOST TIME FOR
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL!

It’s time to register for Vacation Bible School! It’s in the morning this year Monday, July 17–Friday, July 21, from 912 noon, and it’s for rising three-year-olds through rising 6th graders!  Friends and neighbors are welcome too! Click here to download the registration form. Complete it and send it back to Lynn by Wednesday, June 7.

Our theme is Changemakers Lab, where we’ll learn about the transforming love of God through Christ and discover and share creative ways to make a difference in the world! We’ll look at five Bible stories that explore examples of people who experienced and brought about change in the world around them  people who provide a model for asking hard questions, working together to solve problems, reaching across differences, caring for all people, and imagining a new world.

Contact Lynn with any questions!

MAY MISSION PROJECT

For years FBC members have been working in Honduras with Sharefish to provide preschool and elementary education in El Chorizo. The director of the preschool there has partnered with our Weekday Preschool by visiting and shadowing teachers.

In May we are collecting items for their preschool program, such as:
  • Crayons (chubby)
  • Pencils (chubby)
  • Construction paper
  • Glue sticks
  • Coloring pencils
  • Safety scissors

Place your donations in the drawer marked for Honduras donations in the Lewis lobby any time during the month of May. Please contact Cara Lynn Vogel if you have questions.

PALM SUNDAY DEBUT

You are invited to the debut screening of Palm Sunday at the Longleaf Pine Film Festival this Saturday, May 13. Palm Sunday is a narrative short, retelling the true story of Jimmy, an African American man who attempted to join our congregation in the 1970s. Our very own Patrick Nichols produced this film, and many of our congregants made their on-screen premiere! This is a free festival with first-available seating, taking place at the Daniels Auditorium in the NC History Museum. Palm Sunday will be shown in the 5pm block on Saturday, along with many other short films.

LET'S PLAY BALL!

Our very own church league softball team is hard at work, and they're ready for you to see them play! Made up of 19 folks, the team plays games from now until early June at the Millbrook Exchange park on field #2, located at 1905 Spring Forest Road. The games are either at 6:45pm or 7:45pm, depending on the day. We hope you'll make plans to go out and support our team!
