National Clean Energy Week, September 26-30
National Clean Energy Week (NCEW) convenes policymakers, advocates, and the private sector to break barriers and elevate the value of clean energy across our nation. It's also a celebration of clean energy innovation and how innovation helps solve the world’s most pressing challenges. NCEW directly addresses our nation’s need for abundant, reliable energy while preserving the environment. This is the 6th NCEW. Governor DeWine has created a proclamation for Ohio, and communities are encouraged to issue proclamations as well.

If your community would like to prepare a proclamation, you can learn more about how to submit via email to Sarah Spence, PCFO IGAP coordinator & Executive Director of Ohio Conservative Energy Forum at sarah@ohcef.org.

PCFO pitches partnership with city of Wooster

Executive director of the Ohio Conservative Energy Forum, Sarah Spence, spoke to Wooster residents last Thursday evening urging the Wooster City Council to join Power A Clean Future Ohio, creating a clean energy and energy-efficient municipality. The primary goal of PCFO is to be a free technical, policy, and funding resource for local governments that want to reduce their carbon footprints.

Deputy Director of PCFO Cassandra Clevenger said the coalition urges local governments to prioritize clean energy. “(Local governments) are busy and have a lot of things to do, so this often gets left behind," she said. “That's where PCFO steps in with existing policy recommendations and funding assistance.”

Exploring Gaps in City Climate Planning and the Need for Regional Action

A recent article by Brookings.edu discusses the growing threats of climate change and the need to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This includes changing how we build, travel, generate power, and more. Achieving this transformative change will require a mix of policy reforms, new technologies, and significant capital investments.

Within the past 12 months, Congress has passed three landmark bills - the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). However, the question is whether cities are well-positioned to do their part. It identified gaps in city climate planning including that cities can fail to specify internal detailed strategies that will advance their goals. The other gap is regional, where cities do not have the fiscal, technical or programmatic capacity.

If you’d like to discuss your city’s plans to ensure it’s set up for success, please reach out to Power A Clean Future Ohio. Our technical team is available to provide resources to all our PCFO communities.
