May 2022 Faculty Success Newsletter
Message from the Vice Provost for Faculty Success

Greetings Mean Green Colleagues,

We are almost to the end of the semester! Many students are taking commencement pictures in front of Hurley and with the Scrappy statue next to the Union. As a faculty member, I also remember feeling the “whew” after turning in grades and looking forward to some rest and rejuvenation. I hope each of you can view the end of the semester with a celebratory perspective — how you’ve showed up in your teaching, through your creative activity and research, and in leading through service especially through a challenging year!

Faculty Success, along with the UNT Foundation, recognized our prestigious faculty in the Salute to Faculty Excellence event on April 19. The video is now available for your viewing. We are already working on our 2023 SFE event and are excited to hear the many accolades from this year’s event and also imagine how we can make the event even more personable and exciting. Please note that our 2023 UNT Foundation Award Call is now available with a deadline of Sept. 16, 2022.

As you turn an eagle eye toward summer, I hope you consider some opportunities to further innovate your teaching, apply for a prestigious award (Fulbright, anyone?), or participate in one of the many National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity workshops listed in our newsletter. The (free) 3-part series on going up for full professor and the ever-popular 14-Day Writing Challenge are personal favorites!

Finally, I hope you take time to recognize, celebrate, and learn about the rich Asian/Pacific American heritage in our local community during AAPI Heritage Month. Visit the IDEA website to learn about UNT's Asian-Pacific Islander campus organizations and view a calendar of events.
Talons up!

Commencement Update from UNT Police
Graduation season is upon us, giving us the chance to celebrate the success of our students!

For the first time since 2019, we will have full graduation. However, since the city is also back in full swing and will have continuing construction on North Texas Boulevard, patience and awareness will be key to ending the semester strong.

There will be an increase in traffic from guests during UNT commencements, May 13–15, and several high school graduations hosted at the Coliseum throughout the rest of May. The largest high school graduation will be the weekend before Memorial Day. We highly suggest you avoid the area around the Coliseum since we expect traffic congestion and intermittent lane closures.

To avoid traffic headaches, faculty participating in UNT’s commencement may want to park in Lot 4, behind Chilton Hall near Avenue C and Chestnut Street. (Extra tip: If you come in from the North, you will find arriving and exiting MUCH easier!) Graduates and visitors are asked to park in Lot 20 near the highway. Those with ADA needs may park in Lot 27, in front of Rawlins Hall and the Coliseum ticket office.

We’ll continue to keep you updated on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter @UNTPolice. Thank you for another great academic year and remember you can always reach out to UNT’s Community Relations Officer, Cpl. David Causey, at David.Causey@unt.edu or 940-369-7691.
